Hi Kate,
Great summary and write-up- thank you.

FYI: I purchased an njoy Cigar (NGAR). $65 and it comes with a one year warranty. Great thick full vapor-hard to tell from a real cigar.

Once warranty is out and it dies, I'll give the 5 year warranty cigar a go.

Disclaimer: I am not connected with any company in any way which or means

Glad you found it useful :)

I need to add that the Ruyan 'Bling' ecigar from Heaven Gifts is only covered by warranty if you use Ruyan cartridges. I don't think I took that into account when working out the costs so that should be a consideration.

njoy hardware doesn't seem to be better or worse than most others but the warranty adds a lot to their value. If you bought two of those ecigars so you always had a backup then it's not bad spending for a year. They charge a lot for cartridges though so I'd certainly be looking elsewhere for refilling.

At the start of someones esmoking experience I don't think a decent, cheap generic kit can be beaten. Some people don't like esmoking so they won't be out of pocket too much and for those who do take to it they will have a device to use as a backup if they buy others.

However, as time goes on we usually seem to want to experience the 'best' devices. It's pretty subjective I know but some brands get good reviews from experienced esmokers and that suggests that they really are a better experience.

So is it worth sticking with trusty, workhorse, budget generics or does it make financial sense to go with a guaranteed brand device?

I've compared the cost of esmoking with starter kits - Smokester's classic, Janty's Kissbox classic, Sedansa's Diva and Ruyan's bling ecigar from Heaven Gifts.

Smokester's RN4072 classic with one month guarantee. Price £26 Cost of replacement atomisers £6.49 Cost of replacement batteries £7.99. To replace an atomiser and battery every two months (that's five extra atomisers and batteries per year) makes the cost of esmoking with this device £98.40 per year. This includes all postage costs but not eliquid or cartridges.

Janty's Kissbox classic comes with a one year guarantee. Priced £56.87 plus postage. Replacement atomisers, batteries and charger free for one year apart from postage. Cost of esmoking with this device £56.87 per year plus postage, not including eliquid or cartridges.

Sedansa's Diva comes with a five year guarantee. It costs £72.97 plus postage. Replacement atomisers, batteries and charger free for five years apart from postage. Cost of esmoking with this device £72.97 per five years plus postage OR £14.59 per year plus postage, not including eliquid or cartridges.

Heaven Gifts Ruyan ecigar comes with a five year guarantee. It costs £31.86 (with five cartridges) including postage. Replacement atomisers, batteries and charger free for five years apart from postage. Cost of esmoking with this device £31.86 per five years plus postage of replacements OR £6.37 per year plus postage of replacements, not including eliquid or cartridges.

So it seems to me that if you're the type of person who is prepared to use a guarantee there are some good deals out there. I don't know how brands can sustain the rate of replacements with these things but if they continue to offer guarantees we can continue to benefit from the favourable terms.

I haven't shopped around much, if anyone wants to work out Njoy or other devices please go ahead. I think the DSE901 works out at a similar price to Smokester's RN4072.

Another thing, my maths isn't great. Don't go by my figures too much, I might have miscalculated or converted currency wrong. I stand to be corrected.

How much would this be in US dollars?

Do you believe Njoy will not be around in 1 year?
even if Njoy is only around for 8 more months and i had one of their products on my doorstep today, then say i have to replace an atomizer every month and they keep to their word with their warranty thats still 8 free atomizers for me regardless of how you look at it:D

I also believe that as time goes by, the technology will improve and like cell phones, mp3 players, and other electronic devices, as each year goes by, new models with improved performance features will emerge.
and if we use the mp3 player analagy then higher quality for cheaper, two years ago i bought a 512mb flash mp3 player for 160 bucks now i can get a much better 4-6 GIG unit for 20 bucks

Most of the ingredients are not tested for inhaling, even if they are food safe, so we need to be conscious of the potential health damage bad ingredients can cause.
it seems most e-liquid is only a few ingredients so i cant see a couple crappy and potentially unhealthy ingredients being much worse than the metric-****-load of chemicals in traditional cigs.

The problem with monster warranties is like anything else electronic. Better stuff will come out to make your machine look and perform old-school. Compare a 901 to a Dura. Still want to suck on a 901 for 4 1/2 more years?

I'm not really knocking any product, but these devices are fairly new, and more awesome stuff is on the horizon. I love Leaford's reviews, but he's already upgraded his top 5 at least once. I wouldn't be surprised if in a moderate period of time it gets upgraded again....and again....and again. Most certainly within 5 yrs.

Hehehehe...I DO like the names Sedansa and Kissbox. They roll off the tongue. :)
