Quick question. I bought 2 new 18650 2200mah batteries, from local vape shop, for my 134 and VTR. Do I have to let the batteries drain dead before charging them everytime or can I throw them on the charger when they are halfway dead? Going on a trip tomorrow and both batteries are a little more than 50% charged and didn't know if it's bad to charge them if they have a good amount still left. But I have always heard that lipo batteries can be charged anytime. Thanks

nickel-cadmium batteries are the ones that have "memory" issues. (They need to be fully discharged before being recharged.)

Lithium based batteries aren't supposed to have that problem. They still need to be replaced every few hundred charges though.

Oh and Lithium batteries come 50% charged because storing them at 100% charge long term can affect the total life of the battery. High temperature storage can affect the life of your batteries also. If you want to extend the life of spare lithium batteries charge them to 50% and stick them in the fridge. (not the freezer!)

Never drain Li-ion batteries all the way. It damages them. They do not develop any memory effects. You don't lose anything if you charge them early, you get more charge cycles out of them that way so at worst it's a wash and it may actually prolong their useful life. The same is true for Lipo's.

Charge them and vape :)

I second that. Discharging all the way will damage the life of a lithium battery. It is a common mistake people make when they believe that Lithium batteries have memory issues.

I know that my 134 and VTR both take 18650 batteries, but does the mah matter? I know the higher the mah, the longer the charge of the battery will last, but is there a limit on how high I can get the mah on the 18650? Mine are 2200 right now. Could I put a 5000mah in there? I know I need high drain batteries but any specific vender I should buy from? Amazon?

Charge them however it fits your schedule and don't worry about it. Unless you're using a "mech"--and you aren't--there are control chips regulating the charging/discharging of the batteries better than you or any human could.

if you could find 5000mah... it wouldnt matter... kinda like putting a 50 gallon gas tank in your car instead of a 20 gallon tank... the car will still run but not as long as if it had a 50 gal tank

To the best of my knowledge there is no 5000mah battery (if there was we would all be usin them) right now I "think" sony vtc5's are in the lead with 2300mah. The only way to get more mah so far is to get a bigger battery such as the 26650 but that requires a bigger mod and so forth :)

(I may be off on the numbers, it's been a long day)

Buying from Amazon can be risky, especially if you purchase AW or Sony IMR batteries. Being so popular and highly recommended, there are many disreputable distributors who make & sell counterfeit AW batteries. With the high amp Sony batteries becoming popular recently, these have become an easy target for the counterfeiters, too.

"Battery counterfeiting: This is a growing problem and all APV users need to be aware of it.

This is what happens: the counterfeiters buy reject Li-ion batteries in bulk, strip the covers off, and re-cover them with labels that change them to look like popular brands. In this way they can take a cell bought for 10 cents, re-work it, and sell it as for example an AW battery with a retail price of $10. The profits are very high and this practice is growing. It means that you never really know what battery you have unless you buy from somewhere with a verified supply chain. For example, all AW batteries offered for sale on Alibaba are counterfeits, and possibly dangerous.

Many of the AW batteries sold on Ebay & Amazon come from Alibaba. The vendors who sell them may have no idea that they are fake AW batteries and could be dangerous.

I recommend buying only from trusted e-cig vendors who have a verified supply chain direct from the manufacturer. RTD Vapor, Illumination Supply, and Orbtronics for example.

Presently, the IMR with the highest mAh rating which is still high drain is the new Panasonic NCR18659BD 3200mAh battery. The NCR18650A 3100mAh and NCR18650 3400mAh batteries made by Panasonic & Orbtronics are NOT high drain batteries. I know, its confusing. It takes someone who has done a lot of research into mod batteries to know which ones are which. And with new chemistry batteries coming onto the market every couple of months it becomes even more confusing.

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?

Thank you for this. I was fixing to buy:

Nitecore i2 Intellicharge Charger for 18650 AAA AA Li-Ion/NiMH Battery
$11.20 Sold by: HOLSEM LLC
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096U26QQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3UGTLAZQIIXOK

2 X Panasonic CGR18650CH Rechargeable 2250mAh 3.7V 18650 Lithium Batteries

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BTK68SS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2ULLSF7VWONFR

Both of these with shipping + tax is $28, off amazon. Would you know if these are counterfeit or not? Also, I bought a Trustfire battery charger TR-001, from my local vape shop, because that is the one they recommended. I have been reading on forums not to own any battery/charger with the word fire in it because its low quality? Just trying to figure out of I need a new battery charger or not. Last time it took about 6 hours for my batteries to charge, which doesnt bother me, but what is your opinion?

As baditude said, you just don't know with the batteries, far better to pay a less awesome price and know you are getting the real thing.

Understood. The batteries at my local vape shop sells me just a blue battery that says IRC18650 2600mah 3.7V. Thats all it says, they are $15 a piece. Idk if i should continue to buy from them since idk the brand name or not.

My opinion is you can't verify the supply chain of any battery or charger sold on Amazon or EBay. Anyone can post a picture of the genuine batteries on their website, whether they are genuine or fakes in reality. They may be real, or they may be fakes.

The batteries that you put into your mod are the most important piece of gear in your vaping setup. Isn't it worth your piece of mind to purchase the real deal for such an important part of your vaping setup? You use your device within inches of your face many times a day. Are you willing to save a couple of bucks for something that can't be verified to be the real deal?

I buy ALL of my batteries from RTD Vapor. They stake their reputation on being a verified supplier who gets their batteries directly from the manufacturer.

The Trustfire charger is a bottom of the barrel charger with a rather notorious reputation, as do their batteries. Never trust a battery with the name "fire" in its name is quite fitting. The only battery that I have had blow up in a mod was made by Trustfire. Need I say more?
