Battery charging test.

This is just a preliminary test, I am already refining the method.

But as a first trial, I charged two identical batteries, both fully discharged, with aproximately equal wear. One I removed from the charger as soon as the led turned green. That was at about 2 hours. The other did not turn green until 2 1/2 hours, but I left it on for a full 4 hours.

Then I simply set up both batteries with identical atomizers and smoked both at the same time. First one then the other, and later both at once.

With HEAVY puffing, and equal use of both, the one that I removed as soon as the light turned green died after 1 1/2 hours, while the other was still smoking.

The 4 hour one lasted an additional half hour, although I wasn't smoking as heavily as before, so the difference between the two is less than the 3 to 4 ratio I mistakenly stated at the end of my videos.

This test isn't conclusive, however, since the two batteries, the two chargers, or the two atomizers may have had differences which affected the results, but it is suggestive.

I will re-do the test using one brand new battery, and counting puffs instead of time, on a "green light" charge, and a full 4 hour charge.

I don't blame him, I still think theres something that happens after the light is green, maybe the lithium batteries reach 80 percent full power charge and turn green and then proceed to trickle charge to 100 percent as they hate being fast charged the last 20 percent or so! The green LED likes to lie! I think mine are in for overnight charging right now!

It's not just the dispute, I want to know the truth. I have been going on my experience, but hadn't tested it systematically. Trog may piss me off, but it's good to challenge your own beliefs sometimes.

Well experimentation is usually a good way of finding out.

Provided you know which battery is which, I'd recommend you "switch" them for the next test.

Take "Battery A" and give it a good long charge.
Take "Battery B" and only charge until you get the green.

That's a good suggestion, Jason, but I think if I repeat the test with one brand new battery and charger, to eliminate the variable, that would be a cleaner result.

try putting a milliamp meter in line.. i have..

when the battery is flat the chargers full current goes into the battery.. the greater the voltage differential the greater the amount of current will pass.. so a 200 ml output charger will put something akin to its full 200 ml into the battery.. basically higher moves to lower..

a flat lithium controlled cell will be around 2.7.. as the battery gets charged this rises untill the fully charged 4.2 volts is reached.. at this point the max safe voltage is reached and the charge is stopped... the control chip is in the battery not the e cig charger..

but as the battery voltage goes up the voltage differential between charger out put and the battery gets less.. the charger put less into the battery.. so for the last part of the charge way less than the first 200 ml is going into the battery.. hence the 80% of charge being quite quick..

the light is a simple minded thing.. so is the charger.. notice its green with no battery plugged in.. green means no current is being put out.. when it turns red it means current is being put out.. no current passing = green.. current passing = red..

when the battery gets to its safe max voltage the control chip in the battery disconnects the battery from the charger allowing no more current to pass.. result led goes green..

put the milliamp meter in line u will see this.. put a volt meter on the battery during its charge period.. disconnect it to do this.. the batteries nominal voltage rating is 3.7 volts.. but for reasons unkown to me they get taken up 4.2 volts..

i assume its just to get the max run time out of them.. one case where a bit extra for the pot is of some use.. but if the 4.2 point is exceeded danger time is close.. which is why there is no trickle charge..

proving all this for your self is no bad thing.. the screw in e cig battery does make it hard to put the multimeter in line.. its easier to do with other lithium cells that dont screw in.. i have just answered my own question ask in the catch fire thread.. the diode is in there to bypass the pressure switch and permit charging.. without the diode no current could pass without the pressure switch being activated..

It just not pan out, no matter what you try.

All these things are handmade in China.

I bet ya monday morning battery will be different than friday afternoon battery.

Now lets talk about the atomizer, monday morning or tuesday afternoon........

Then, whom ever fills the carts, all done by hand, one person might be a little generous with the juice while the other is feeling cheap.

They're not quite as identical as they look in the photo. The brand name batts - Sedansa, Janty - have logos on them. The NJOY penstyle batts don't, but I wrote N on them with a CD pen. There's a lot of difference in the atomiser connecters too so it's no biggie to keep them all straight. The only device where I swap inter-brand parts is the NJOY / generic pen.
