They look like the same thing to me, just a diffrent label.

The batteries in the first link are red/black and have flames on them so they're charging an extra 6 cents.

The gray ones I have are 3.6 volts.

I now need to wait and see it they fit the box mod
the .04mm difference, can it be made up by cutting the spring?
Is that something that can/should be done, or it disrupts the function of the circuit?

I'm pretty sure a box mod won't give you any problems. Some tube mods are very precise though. The Chameleon, eg. wouldn't tolerate any more width and the Protege has just a tad more forgiveness in width and length. But if you haven't bought yet, stick with the blue protected ones.
