What I take from tearoses post about AW batteries is that noone really knows what they are. Honestly, I just took ECF members word for them being "safest there is". Think I'll stick to a brand that cares about letting their customers know what they buy.

Anyone has any recommendations for good quality IMR 18350 batteries?

AW.

Your choices for 350s are kinda limited.

But but... but... I'm trying to get off the AW wagon here. Since AW clearly does not produce his own batteries, and if top quality makers don't make 18350 IMR cells... what makes an AW IMR 18350 any better than most other 18350 IMR battery out there? ... and who makes those AWs?

My battery knowledge comes crumbling down in an avalanche of confusion.

Stumbled across a year old post that makes some kind of sense to me: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-imr-18350-battery-850-mah-2.html#post5726058

I see that, but I would rather buy a brand name battery with a data sheet than something that just tests well. And it's the mythology part that annoys me. Why would a "serious" brand not care to even have a proper outlet for information to avoid all this mythology?

If AW don't make his own batteries, there has to be some name-brand batteries out there that are the exact same, but comes with proper information and less mythos. I'm happy with my current AW 18350s, but once they start to die off, I'd really like to find something from a serious manufacturer.

What folks are trying to tell you, they're currently the only game in town for the best performance in their size...

But but... but.... oh ok...

Well then again, what Chinese company really does that? Let alone a one-man show. Nonetheless his batteries are recognized as some of the best and no one has really found exact alternatives to his IMR cells. As mentioned his 18350s are the best performing around, and as far as I know there is only one high drain 18650 that outperforms the AW 1600 at high amps.

There are plenty of name-brand batteries that aren't as good. There is AW mythos at this point but it's well-founded. For a Chinese small-presence business to gain that reputation, it really has to check out.

I'm convinced!

(Not really, but I'm trying my best to avoid another of those terrible terrible miscommunication pictures ;))

I'm surprised major battery manufacturers are not jumping on the bandwagon for high-performance batteries specifically for vaping... Perhaps they're concerned about possible liability in case of:

AW is a guy in china that sources good batteries. His batteries are well-tested and proven to be very good.
His 350 currently is the best 18350 on the market.

But what should you do or don't with'em?

Can I toss'em in a fire like I did with spent D cells when I was a kid?

What I derive from reading about AW is that all his batteries are tested and the best of the bunch are sold as AW brand. The rest are wholesaled back out to others. What I expect from AW is a high quality battery. So far, I've found them to be excellent in performance and long lasting in producing that performance level.

I'll continue to buy the brand. What's a couple of bucks extra over many months of useable life? I've rotated 4 AW 18650 IMR's now for about a year and a half. I don't see any slowdown so far. They are just hand picked batteries from a reliable manufacturer who labels the ones that produce the top specs in testing.

It's really no more than buying hand picked fruit instead of a bushel of whatever came out of the field.

We can speculate about this magical hand picking process all day long. It's the fact that we have to speculate about it that makes me want to take my money elsewhere; not unhappiness with performance. My speculation is that no serious battery manufacturer leaves their quality control to an outsider and slaps their own labels on his discards.

If it was about price, we wouldn't been having this discussion at all.

Guess I currently have no option for my beloved 18350s. For bigger cells, I'll stick to Sanyo/Panasonic.
