Deeming regs will stop all of that foolishness of underage vaping.
Worked with cigs didn't it?

Yeah, wait until they see how much damage all of the homemade stuff teenagers and inexperienced users end up being forced to buy can do. :facepalm:

I daresay any battery is liable for thermal runaway - and especially if you keep it rattling round with loose change in a pocket, or a handbag. That's why you can buy those little plastic/rubber cases for them.

However, once the battery IS in thermal runaway mode, yes, it can fly across a room like a bullet, and if someone's in the way, they can get hurt.

Did we ever find out if it was a mod, or a loose battery?

Not that I know of?

BTW - You kinda have to take your Hat Off to the FDA for One Thing. I think that they, and Only they, could have kept a Thread like this down to ONLY 11 Posts.

It's too bad that once something like this gets released, under the PMTA, this won't make it's way into e-cigs immediately, or at all:

The most recent research to address these problems comes out of Stanford University. Researchers have developed a temperature sensor that can shut down the battery before it overheats, preventing a thermal runaway. In addition, the sensor is capable of restarting the battery automatically once it cools down.
<snipped>

“We attached the polyethylene film to one of the battery electrodes so that an electric current could flow through it,” says Zheng Chen, lead author of the paper. “To conduct electricity, the spiky particles have to physically touch one another. But during thermal expansion, polyethylene stretches. That causes the particles to spread apart, making the film nonconductive so that electricity can no longer flow through the battery.”

Answered my own question: http://www .waff.com/story/31881184/batteries-change-cause-explosion-injuring-student-at-albertville?clienttype=generic
Loose batteries.

:facepalm: battery cases are so cheap, and they often come shipped with the batteries.

Well, if the teen were able to purchase stuff from a vape shop, maybe someone at the shop could have told him it was a bad idea to carry loose batteries in your pocket.

Or... if the loose battery in your pocket gets hot, don't set it on the desk and go about your business.
