I have a Kanger subtank mini with a K Box and an EFest18650 3.7v 2500mAh, and an OCC 0.5ohm coil (soon to be experimenting with a RBA coil)

The battery gets really hot when vaping, is this normal? Is it safe?

Thanks

When you say really hot I'm going to go ahead and assume you actually mean really hot, not just warm. That's not supposed to happen. is it the actual Efest battery or the K box? If it's the Battery itself, buy another one. If it's the K box, that sucks but also buy another one. Neither should ever get really hot to the touch.

... are you chain vaping at or near max wattage?

Good question. OP, check if the atomizer is really hot from chain vaping and if it is, it's most likely just transferring heat to the mod. If that's not it, then definitely replace whichever thing is the culprit.

PS: inb4 all the Efest jokes

The battery itself gets hot when vaping, i took it out and it smelt of electrical burning.

Which battery do you recommend for my setup for when i Sub ohm, i plan to get my coil at 0.4.

    Thanks

Resist smelling batteries. It could put you in the hospital or worse especially if a vent is in progress or there is a leak.

Your k-box goes up to 50W so that's as hard as the battery can be driven, no matter what coil resistancr you use. To calculate the max current draw use the following equation...

Max Amps = Max Wattage / Min Battery Voltage

For your k-box I will assume a 3.2V minimim battery voltage, adjust as necesary...

    Max Amps = 50W / 3.2V = 15.6A

If you're running at or near 50W and chain vaping then I recommend the Sony VTC4. Otherwise, I recommend the LG HG2 3000mAh battery to get longer times between charging.

If the battery itself is getting hot after only a minute or 2 of vaping then you probably have a short of some sort on your kbox.

Or, check if the bottom of the box is getting hot; maybe the issue is the contact at the bottom.
