How educated do I need to be for what I am doing?

Well for starters you need to know how to use ohms law, and have an understanding of what it means in relation to what you are doing

I dont know ohms law and ive bee rebuilding for 6 months. If steam engine tells me im atleast 5 amps below my batterys continuos amp limit im good to go. Its so simple, yet people make it have this stupid mystiq.

Hi guys,

Just been reading a few things (insulators burning through & shorting, the recent mod explosion, etc) and just wondering if I am in over me head with what I'm doing or if I'm in the 'safe' category.

I don't have any mods, and the sub-est of sub ohming I do is the 0.5ohm Subtank coils. I have the Subtank Nano & Mini.

The two batteries I use are the Ego One and the Aspire CF Sub Ohm. I'm getting into rebuilding the stock OCC Coils and my coils clock in between 0.6 & 0.8 ohm.

So a few questions...

- with the two batteries I have, what could go wrong? I've read about the safety features of the Ego One & the CFSubOhm but my knowledge of electronics is really basic. The have short protection, over charge protect, etc? The CFSubOhm has 9 second cut off on the fire button, not sure about the Ego One.

- What would happen if the insulators on the OCC coil burned through & shorted?

- the Ego One does heat up when charging, is this an issue or is it considered normal?

I really just want to be as safe as possible, and I'm not sure if I've got the time & patience to get educated.

What do you guys reckon?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Do you find it easier to rebuild the stock OCC coils compared to the RBA coils?

I find it puzzling that a lot of people seem to rebuild the subtank OCC coils instead of rebuilding the subtank RBA coils.

I prefer the size of the Nano tanks to the mini, so I don't have the RBA deck. I'm used to rebuilding my PT2 coils, so this was a natural extension for me...

I guess it's the same with any safety regime, how much is too much. The chances of a charging battery lighting up while you sleep and burning your house down are very small, but would it hurt to wait until morning? Should you put your charger in a fireproof steel box, or is that over the top?

Steam engine is using ohms law to calculate the amp draw.

Please tell me you test your builds -actual- resistance before screwing it on to your device.

Do you check it with an ohm meter to be sure you don't have a short before putting it on your relatively expensive mod?

Just asking.

I haven't gotten into the RBA rebuild yet. But I also prefer the size of the ST Nano to the Mini. So the Nano on the Ego One has seen most of the action. I really only use the Mini and the CFSubOhm as a backup.

The video tutorials I've seen for the RBA rebuild make it look pretty easy, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I dont build low so no I dont. When I used to build low .2 or so I would use a nice multi-meter to make sure I wasnt getting crazy. I use a regulated mod now so I dont even check them anymore until I throw them on my box. I run high ohm high wattage builds so its not necessary any more to get the muiltimeter ouy of the truck. Before I had my IPV Mini2, I would throw my RDA on my VTR and if it fired I was good if not id check to see how much lower then .6 it was. I always gave 5 amps of wiggle room just to be safe.

I was always safe, but not like some of you who act like your defusing a bomb
