Hello. Very new here...

I was using my USB PT yesterday and was wondering....why not make a BATTERY *without* an LED light on the end? Wouldn't the battery last a bit longer if it didn't have to power the LED?

Why not make a battery that you can turn the LED ON or OFF?

I get about 3 hours out of my battery charges....standard battery, not an XL
How long do the rest of you get on yours?

The LED on a battery takes up such a small amount of power that you'd not even notice the possible one extra drag of power from not having it. You can take the LED off a battery yourself pretty easily. Just pop the ashcap off the end, unplug the LED, and replace the ashcap. Some do this to create a "stealth" battery for when they are vaping at the movies, or at restaurants.

I get about a full day of use on my XL batteries. I'm not sure exactly how long they'd last, because I just throw them on the charger overnight.

This has been an ongoing beef with me... I can only stand the red and yellow LEDs, as I hate people staring when I'm vaping with a bright blue LED. I never thought of just disconnecting the LED before... I just tried it with an old battery with a blue LED.... I popped the LED cap off with a nail clipper file, and then clipped the two wires connecting the LED. I was pretty sure that would kill the battery overall... but I just vaped with it, and it works fine! Only problem now is that I won't have visual confirmation of when the battery dies out, but I think that's fine... once it stops working, that means I need to charge it again.
Thanks for the idea Darrigaaz!

My personal opinion on this is that it's much ado about nothing.

I have to agree with FF335, but then again, without all the minutiae the big :censored: wouldn't stand out!
LEDs are an integral part of the e-cig. If you want to hide the light in public (or in a dark movie theater like I did last night), just cup your hand over it.

We need the no led during normal use but a led blink when needing charge!

What would you need, a different micro chip? I would imagine it would be that easy. Just tells the led to blink only when needing charge. The only issue I would see is that there is no manufacturer that makes a chip of these specs, "I would imagine". There would have to be a demand for it in order to get it produced? Again, "I would imagine".

And chopping the led on current batteries is a bad idea imo. It would be easy to vape it dead quickly. I guess it would be ok if you just took 2 batts fully charged out with you for a night or something. That way you dont vape it all day and run the risk of completely killing the batt.

Same chip, different firmware. And that's a huge deal.

You won't completely kill the battery. They have a cutoff. Once it rests and rises above the minimum safe charge the charger will do the rest.

Edit to add: Your simplest solution, imho, is still pirating an ash-cap from another battery. Darken one with a "44 Magnum" Marker. Some big heavy oil-based marker. Put that one on to go out, and have a regular one for when you want to see the LED.

Get GREEN and BLUE and PURPLE LEDs and be proud to vape in public folks! Spread the word and SHARE YOUR VAPING KNOWLEDGE, SAVE LIVES!
:toast:  :headbang: :2cool: :smokie:

You must LOVE random strangers following you down the street and bugging you with a zillion questions you've answered countless times already. Funnily enough, this happens very often to me (whenever I am vaping with a non-red LED, which is why I try to avoid vaping outside with blue/green/pink/whatever LEDs now)... and more often than not, the questions come from NON-smokers, so not only do they waste my time but with no benefit to them. I'm not an antisocial person, but I live in NYC... I value my privacy and ability to walk around without being badgered.

I love explaining to my friends and acquantainces about them... a few have already switched over... I've perfected a five minute demonstration about the wonders of vaping. But I hate the emphasis on the technological wonders of vaping, I personally don't care all that much about how they are made or blinky lights... I'm just glad they helped me quit smoking completely, and will talk about them only to that extent... there are a lot of gadget freaks who are only interested in the "coolness" of it.

My bad, had no idea. I live in the suburbs and never even see strangers. I get your point now. One more idea: you could join the V4L affiliate program and just hand them a business card and tell them to check it out themselves...
