I'll end-up making a minimum order on the LED's, so 100 of them at $0.19ea FOB Shenzhen. I have a shipping account with DHL, so probably around 27% to land them.

There's always the risk of killing a board or LEDs with reworking 0603s. We're talking a part the size of the head of a pin, give or take, and you do all your work under 15-20x magnification. That said - 2 pin 0603's are what beginners start with, it's just more heat sensitivity for an LED. After I have a couple successes without failure, I'll offer to rework one or two of yours, Taryn. :) I just need to figure out how to do a full disassembly without scratching the finish on the batteries. Those darn press-fit connectors stink for non-destructive disassembly.

I replaced my LED with a wire and an alligator clip... now when my batt is almost outta juice, it uses the last bit of electricity to shock my left nipple...

LMAO

I would prefer no light. What I really need is pager like on my cordless phone. I hide my e-cig from myself a few times a day. The hardest time finding it was when I had stuck it in a coffee cup that is full pens and pencils. Why? I can not know. :p

As a data-point in your crusade, I too would purchase a purple LED device. Now that my rework station is unpacked, I may have to go ahead and order some purple LEDs and replace one or two of mine.

I like that rework station, my station's just an old Weller that a friend gave me 15 years ago when he bought a rework. Maybe when I get a job I'll pick up a 2702. That thing looks nice, and I've got some mod projects in mind that will be using small smt. I've never worked with chips that are 4mmx4mm with 24 pins on them. Seems it would probably be easier to use air to solder those than a pen.
