Either way is fine.

Standard is 18350 mode with the positive under the switch.

The "flipped" configuration is used with 18650 batteries and requires an additional contact piece to allow the contact to reach the sleeve.

The flipped configuration makes the hammer look somewhat like a traditional pipe.

Here is a thread that should answer all your Hammer questions.

I always put mine in positive side toward the button, but it doesn't actually make a difference. Do it that way the mod is low-side (negative) switched, but this is common in low volt DC circuits. The 3-ish volts in a single battery isn't going to leap off and ground itself somewhere. I used a clone in the 650 config for years as my go-to car mod. Either way the battery will fire the coil. It doesn't make a lot of difference.
