I'll just add here that it's a fact about the vapor's tongue in the beginning. Smoking over the years has damaged your taste buds. Once that you have totally stopped smoking, they will heal and taste will return. Practice good oral hygeine (including a tongue brush) and drink plenty of water while vaping (can cause dehydration, which causes dry mouth, which affects taste).
Allow your sense of smell assist your sense of taste. Our noses help our sense of taste all of the time and we aren't aware of it. For instance, when our nose is all stopped up from a cold, our food tastes bland. So...when exhaling your vapor, allow some to exit through your nose. You might be amazed that some flavors can now be detected where before they seemed nonexistant.
Many juice vendors that customize their juices to your specifications will add extra flavor if requested. Also be aware that many of the customized flavors will benefit from a week or two of "steeping" or maturing of the flavor mixture. So...when a flavor is not appealing upon delivery, put it away for a week or two and then revisit it again...you might be surprised that it now is quite enjoyable.
Don't be trying to find a flavor that tastes like your cigarette. It isn't made and can't be done. Don't waste time or money trying to find one.
Do try a variety of sample flavors from different vendors. Don't waste money on larger bottles of juice that you may never like or use again. If you find a sample flavor that you like, simply buy more in a larger quantity. And do try flavors other than tobacco or menthol. You might be surprised to find that you like a fruit, candy, desert, coffee, or adult beverage flavor as one of your mainstay flavors.
I might suggest that when you do smoke, smoke only half of the cigarette and put it out. When you smoke again, finish that first cigarette, don't light up a new one. You are trying to quit here, so let the burnt tobacco flavor speak for itself. You'll soon find that you prefer the taste of your e-cig over the cigarette.
