Hey ECF community,

I have a short question maybe ya'll can help me out with. I currently have 18650 US18650GR 2600mAh batteries. Does anybody know stronger batteries than this? I know I can safely vape at like .3 ohms with this, but are there any stronger? Maybe longer battery life? Maybe ones where I can go lower on the ohms? Thank you in advanced!

The almighty VTC line is all I would recommend if you want to build lower, but some other good ones are samsung 25r's and LG HE2's they only have a 20a continuous rating BUT IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE (I do just fyi) going into pulse ratings they do have some respectable pulse rating at 35a, happy vaping

I had a guy at my local b&m explain it to me in a very good way. I was always weary on sub-ohm builds and questioned about the difference between pulse and continuous draw. I had explained that I have very good lungs and can hit my .45 ohm for about 11 secs. draw. He said "If you can cause a hit to have a continuous draw, I would bow down to you." Then explained that after my draw I let go of the fire button hence not a continuous draw. He let me try his (.15 ohm build) and said "Here, now try hitting this for that long." I trust him as I see him hitting it every time I am there bs ing for hrs on end. Needless to say with that build and the heat, my lungs would only allow a 4 second draw. He just sat back and smiled. I had answered my own question. So I asked about going lower to like a .3 build. Samsung 25 Rs have no problem hitting that ( .3 ohm) as you have plenty of overhead in the amp discharge rate. A .3 ohm build on a fresh set of batteries would yield a 14 amp discharge rate when the battery is rated for 20 amp continuous. I would suggest that you run what you feel comfortable with BUT STRESS make sure you under stand batteries and their SAFETY. I personally won't run under .3 ohms. I thought I recognized this battery from a while back. I checked again now and the only information I could find on them is this thread from CPF. From that, these batteries are used in laptops and that means they are very likely ICR batts. If yours are 2600 mAh, they are rated 5.2 amps. This discharge rating also implies they are probably ICR chemistry, which are the dangerous ones that burn or explode when abused.

If you have any other information on these batteries I would be very interested in seeing it :)

Would you refresh my memory on what a continues rating is and a pulse rating? That's when I need tp tap the fire button instead of holding it down right? Would you mind explaining it to me a little more?
My personal thoughts:

Continuous Discharge Ratings vs Pulse (Burst) Discharge Ratings

The "continuous discharge rating" in amps is the standard specification for amp limits within the battery industry. It is a determination made by the manufacturer and represents the amp limit a battery can be safely used before it will fail.

The "pulse or burst" discharge rating is not a specification standard within the battery industry. Every manufacturer or vendor seems to have their own definition of what the pulse rating is.

A pulse discharge rating is any use above the continuous discharge rating. It is never safe and not within the intended operating parameters of the battery. You should not operate your device above the continuous rating if you can help it. The pulse rating is a condition in which the battery is on basically a buildup to failure. It is exceeding the sustainable and intended discharge rate of the battery. It is inappropriate for a consumer device to operate in the pulse range of its battery.

Which would be why we shouldn't rely on any pulse rating. Any failure, mechanical or electronic, that fires the mod will operate in the 'continuous' mode. If your setup relies on a pulse rating, it's instantly over spec.

If your amp draw is safely in the continuous discharge range, your coil could act almost like a fuse and burn out before the battery is stressed. If you are already running the battery at the edge of it's limits (pulse), there is no margin of safety.

Unless you have a flashlight that can use those batteries, I would not use them in any mod, and properly dispose of them.

If you are vaping at 0.3 ohms, you need at least a 20 amp battery (continuous discharge rating) for some safety headroom. Your ohm reader could be a little off, or a post screw could unknowingly come loose to change your coil ohm rating. That's what "safe headroom" is for.

1.0 ohm = 4.2 amp draw
0.9 ohm = 4.6 amp draw
0.8 ohm = 5.2 amp draw
0.7 ohms = 6 amp draw
0.6 ohms = 7 amp draw
0.5 ohms = 8.4 amp draw
0.4 ohms = 10.5 amp draw
0.3 ohms = 14.0 amp draw
0.2 ohms = 21.0 amp draw
0.1 ohms = 42.0 amp draw
0.0 ohms = dead short = battery goes into thermal runaway

The list of true 20 amp continuous discharge ratied batteries is rather small. Battery Basics for Mods
