Ok. I have an MK2 screwdriver from TW. The batteries that came with it are ICR18350 - 3.7V 900mAh

what is a battery that can be used to replace this? I took this batt to a local batt guy and he basically said that these batts are horrible and very dangerous!!! I would like to hopefully get a protect batt with the same voltage.

Help me out

Well, I always recommend contacting the vendor for such questions, and TW is very good with costumer service. That battery, per se, IMHO is not necessarily required, just one that has the same length and is not thicker. It must be Li-ion though, in order to be able to deliver the wattage to the atty well. If the batteries are not protected (it would say on the battery), then the comments about danger are perhaps understandable. If your charger is not equipped to stop charging when the battery reaches a particular voltage, then fire could result as it becomes overcharged. A protected battery will be the same, just have protection from overcharging circuitry inside. They are available at many battery sites. madvapes has them:

Protected 18350 Lithium Ion Battery

Here is another battery site:

Lithium Ion 18350 rechargeable battery 3.6V 850 mAh - e-lectronics.net :

I'm surprised it is labeled at only 900 mAh. Most 18350s are labeled as about 1200-1600 mAh, but then many batt companies infate their ratings, so 900 mAh might be closer to accurate.

You should be able to use smaller Li-ion batts, like the 14500, but you would have to create a metal spacer to hold them in. In theory any Li-ion batt with poles at the ends should work, as long as they fit. Sometimes the protection circuitry makes the batteries slightly longer than unprotected, which can be a problem if the battery port is very tight.

But, as I said, the best first thing to do is contact TW. They may have other suggestions. BTW, I don't think everyone uses protected batteries on their batt mods, and I have yet to hear of anyone having fires or explosions with Li-ion batts like this one. Li-ion batts do still have a rep for fires, though, but I think it is people remembering how they were when they first came out. I think they are far less prone to fires now, even if unprotected. And I believe almost all chargers have protection circuitry now. If you bought one from TW, you should ask them.

Enjoy your SD!! Its a great PV!
