Hey bored, not sleeping I stumbled across the orbtronic page and one of their important tips I read

"do not store batteries fully charged (for extended periods of time)

Why is this, batt life, danger, and why it is that they shouldn't be left that way(mechanism)?

I'm new at all this and I'm curious, so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Hey, just stumbled across a blog post on this very forum that will answer your questions.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-issues/8852-li-ion-batteries-truth.html

If you're wondering about lithium ion batteries, this is all you need to know. The user also point to a more in-depth writing on the subject written by an expert in the field, from which he posted this condensed guide.

If you don't want to read the whole post (which I would recommend) here is a quote to answer your question.

"3. Leaving the cells in the charger for any longer than necessary for a complete charge (usually around 3 hours) will probably reduce their life-span:

"Hints to long battery life-

Limit the time at which the battery stays at 4.20/cell. Prolonged high voltage promotes corrosion, especially at elevated temperatures. (Spinel is less sensitive to high voltage than cobalt-based systems).

Thanks for the response, I did read that post, I haven't found however, a reason not to leave fully charged batteries in storage of some sort.

From what I took out of that article, it says that when a battery is fully charged and has its maximum voltage for a long period of time, it will promote corrosion inside the battery, effectively shortening its lifespan. To paraphrase from the article; batteries should be left at around 40% charge and in a cool, dry place if you are leaving them for some period.
