JC, I felt similarly embarrassed by having to redo my order TWICE with IMRbatteries. First, I managed to order the wrong thing, and customer service was able to cancel my order and have me reorder. I then managed to send it to my old house's address (I reactivated paypal and did not check my address, sigh. Even went there but the new owners (whom I know) said they received them, but returned to sender.
So, another embarrassing email to IMRbatteries, (I offered to repay for shipping costs) but CS said they would just refund my FULL order (including shipping) and that I could go ahead and reorder then, which I did.
They then sent them next day, with extra battery cases and rewraps (I know, pennies really, but I enjoyed the nod to battery safety). I have to say, if your vendor is anything like mine, you should not hesitate to contact them, I have found that the top battery vendors are doing such great business that really, they have awesome customer service, and the fact that you missed THEIR error is nothing to be embarrassed about.
I'm going to agree with others that you can rewrap just to be safe, but that kind of discoloration of batteries does happen and doesn't tend to degrade them. I'm not sure how heavy your battery use is (I have more than 2 married pairs, mainly so I can rotate them and enjoy better battery life over time) but if it's heavy use that could have caused the darkening, and I'm not sure when you got those batteries, but if they are getting warm (this may be a wattage issue) then you may want to look at more frequent rotations and/or lower wattages, but I really think rewrapping would be okay, I've gotten the occasional dark spot on my batteries, I just rewrap if I think it's indicated and continue. I haven't heard of problems with rewrapping and using those slightly darkened batteries, in fact I'm going to guess that there are folks who may have a dark spot or two and never even notice.
Best of luck, but really, make good on your order, the worst thing they can say is no, and they aren't going to remember you if you ask, even, I can pretty much guarantee it.... There's some rather high customer volume going on with these vendors, I'm pretty certain.
