I'm in the market for some new batteries for my mechanical mod. I'll be using and RBA and sub ohm coils. My current 18650 battery is rated at 20 watts according to the vendor that sold it to me. My question is, how do I find the max wattage on batteries when searching online. Or, what would be your recomendation on a safe 18650 to use in my setup.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

At 4.2 volts and .9 ohms you will get 19 watts and only have 4.67 amps. The thing about the battery if your only going to be using say 10 amps then getting a 40 amp battery will not get you much. NOW the other factor that is important is the mah/mil amp hour rating. That is how long it will run. A 3000mah battery will run at 3000ma or 3 amps for one hour. So that rating will determine how long your battery lasts.

You would be interested in the "C" rating. If its not listed you should assume 2C.

C=2600mah = 2.6A
2C= 2.6 x 2 = 5.2A

So an average 18650 with an unlisted max discharge rate with a 2600mah rating would put you not wanting to go higher than 5.2A your .4 ohms on a 3.7v = 9.25A

It would technically work but not for long and probably not again.

This is why the AW IMR1600 is often suggested for mods. it has a 15C rating and max discharge of ~20A. Dont rely on cheapo batteries that say "high discharge" always look for spec sheets if its an off brand.

If you plan to see 0.4Ω on your meter, consider it may read 0.1Ω off (0.351 reads 0.4Ω) and plan for 0.3Ω. That's a bit over 13A at 4.0 volts (which you aren't likely to get, but good for planning). The high-drain, safer chemistry 1600 mAH AW IMR 18650 is rated at 15C, that's 15 x 1.6AH = 24A. If your mech mod doesn't use a hot spring, use a VapeSafe fuse under the battery.
