Hi folks! So my wife just brought me this battery (Sony SE US18650V3, I'm not familiar with it other than it's supposed to support 10 amp continuous and came with a Vamo in a Slowtech kit).

A couple things - first, the wrapper is discolored in an odd way near the negative end (hoping pic will convey this). She says she noticed a drop off in vapor production, pulled the battery, and noticed this. It was being used in a Caravela mech clone with a dual coil rda built last night measured at 1.4 ohm. On my multimeter the charge reads about 3.45.

Would a sudden power drop be expected about now? I was under the impression that 3.5 is about time to charge, though it's safe to go down to 3.2ish (that's when the Vamo cuts out and asks for a new battery).

Also, battery didn't get hot or anything - safe to throw back in the Nitecore, charge, and re-use?

Second issue - Kamry K100s we were using before she got her Caravela and I got my Nemesis have cut slight grooves in the battery wrapper - not all the way through, but noticeable. Again, hoping this shows in the pic. Okay to use under this condition? Anything I can do to strengthen the wrap if not? I've got a couple VTC4 and VTC5 batteries that have suffered the same fate, hoping if this isn't okay there's some fix...and maybe some way to get the K100 to stop doing this.

Any thoughts are appreciated - I've posted a couple threads asking similar questions before and it seems the general answer is "if you ever have any question about your battery, throw it away," but I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting a bit paranoid and wifey's batteries seem to develop some quirk or another within 2-3 charges, so buying a new battery every other charge cycle is getting expensive. Again, thanks for taking a look! battery.jpg

Yes, atty performance will drop off as battery voltage goes down. It's good she noticed it before it got too low :). I try to change batteries at around 3.6 - 3.7V in my mechanical mods. Lower than that, the voltage drops faster and faster and it gets hard to catch it before it gets too low. I've run a couple of mine down to around 2.5V a couple of times in the last year which is not good for the battery.

I have four Sony batteries split between VTC3 and VTC4, all of which have the same discoloration on the wrapper. I had a couple of MNKE orange batteries and they did the same thing. Other people have seen the same thing on theirs too and I suspect most of these cells are the same. It's not a problem.

Charge those puppies and vape on :thumb:

The scratches on the wrappers are not a problem as long as they are not all the way through the wrapper and it starts to peel. My K100 does the same thing. Used it as my main vape tool for almost a year and it never cut through a wrapper, just marked them. I don't know how to stop this from happening.

ETA: Here's a thread where the battery discoloration was discussed (has pictures):

What happened to my battery?

Ok...I noticed the other day that I had scraped my batt (just a little) and noticed bare metal ......can I use electrical tape over it? The scrape is about 2mm.
I'm glad I noticed it.
I'd get the covering stuff but I don't possess a hair dryer of any type.
This is the first time I have encountered this - please, no hate mail, lol

Using electrical tape is just fine as long as it doesn't make the battery too big to fit in your mod anymore.

Vape on :)
