Sometimes it's easy to forget that not everyone is ready as we were. Even if we didn't think so, we were at a spot in our lives. Even I knew about for at least a year before I looked at it seriously.

I show people my e-cigs and give them info. The rest is up to them. I have had a couple of people switch and stay off analogs. I have also had a couple that for different reasons didn't.

I researched a long time too. Collapsing at the top of four flights of stairs was , shall I say, game over.

Research is good. Chest pain is real.

Once again, tonight, much interest from a couple of people. One person that I had also went out of my way to respond to their high level of interest, and who didn't respond with even a thank-you, confessed that not only did they not want to bother me, but they weren't ready. It's too complicated. Intimidating. So we talked it out. I understood. A few of us were discussing it - all so positive really. That's what gets to me... but I have to understand that they are teetering on the edge of something out of the mainstream, and a new commitment. It really is better if they're honest with themselves. My willingness to help is not important in the scheme of things.

Next person who was all gung-ho I told outright that I would only help if they were really interested - that I'm there, but won't go out of my way prematurely. That they respected and... well we'll see. It seems to work better when you hold your knowledge back as something valuable, not to be given away freely. A known psychological phenomena, except I can't remember the name of it :sneaky:.

In the meantime I schooled my friend on filling cartos, etc. She is so in. Hopefully in the very near future I'll have a 1.

All in all I'm learning how to be with the ecig myself in public and also be with the reaction or interest shown by other people, another dimension of the whole experience.

When I started vaping in Aug I tried to convert as many as I could with various reactions.

Then I started working at the flea market 1 day a week and was hooked.

I have changed my career and now work for a vendor full time and at the flea market on weekends and that is the best part of my job. Easter Sun a mom drug her 15 yr old son to get info and I got to beet him about the ears for smoking, fun and mom liked it too.

I recieved an email from some one the other day that told me they bought an 808 kit and had only smoked 4 cigs since, that made my day.

The best part tho is when they come back to the booth to buy more joose or upgrade kit and havent smoked in a week or more.

Lets face it, even for those of us who are truely motivated for whatever reasons and found our way here, probably felt overwhelemed, especially if they were tired of patches, gum, this pill, that pill, cold turkey and raging.. etc etc, none of which worked and lots of money wasted. So looking at yet another option, with uncertainty and a tighter grip on their wallet/purse, and a looser grip on faith and hope.....it is something that will probably be a slow process.

Hopefully not like water shaping a boulder...

I look at my own path to here, an attempt 2 years ago hog wild.. didn't quite work out. Liked the concept didn't like the results/performance. I stayed randonmly interested and kept reading, checking out an occasional video here and there.

Things looked promising, I am back :) Although as you see my posts, even from someone interested, somewhat on top of things, lots of research, at times I felt more lost than when I started, and ask tonnes of questions.

Once I jumped and got my first ( born again vi..err no wait.. vaper! ) kit, and liked it's performance, got a little more faith, a tighter grip on hope and motivation/dedication, and then loosened the wallet.

It's easy to justify spending extra money on different things to try when you know you are going to save money from the lack of analogs.

Have I brought up all the wonderful health reasons? No... because for a "smoker" who is a "smoker" the financial aspect is something that not even the lies of the addiction can hide....

Whatever the reason to try vaping, the health benefits comes regardless and then the addiction cannot even lie about that.

you nailed it. if i remember correctly may be thinking about the "scarcity" ploy, a core sales technique. there is a fantastic book called Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (Cialdini) that outlines these in everyday language.

its great when you can work in something you are passionate about. you are very lucky, must give a lot of satisfaction.

It was nice meeting you Kevin, & Mopar. I had a blast spending the better part of the afternoon with you guys. I even shared some advice to some of your customers. I loved the look that the public got when the walked by the booth - they were blown away by the "vapour" we were generating. Most were sold on the kits within just minutes. You guys are like parametics - your on the front line - saving lives.

Welp I think I have a convert, or he seems to be in the process , with another one that is watching him for 2 weeks to see how he does.

When I ordered the SS LT and evo VV, I ordered a second evo VV kit because of all the questions I was getting and a few friends who are also in the lets see if you last unlike your 510 attempt a few years ago.

The boss ( not mine ) of the guys in the shop my engineering station is at, kept saying I could go a head and use mine in the shop he didn't care. Kept asking questions, then said next time I am ordering stuff get him a kit.

So I gave him the kit, 5 boge LR's, a stardust and 5 different sample size juices of juggy's stuff. He has been using it at home, his wife says the VV is ok in the house but no more smoking, he hits it once in a while in the shop, and is down to a few smokes a day.

He came back in from having an analog at the end of the day and asked if I noticed that the analogs kind of tasted bad after using the pv all day :)

Sounds like he is getting there too :)

I have one person vaping part time (father in-law) and two others seriously interested and doing research.

One fellow whome I see at work occasionally, who I believe to be mentally challenged, smokes almost a pack a day noticed my PV and asked about it, I explained the why and whats and he proceeded to dismiss vaping and refused to even try a puff and pressed as to why I would do such a silly thing, my response "I want to smoke, but I don't want to die" he left at that point unable to retort.

Another highlight with another older fellow.
Him- "Bah, if I was gonna get Cancer I would have gotten it by now"
Me- "I have no doubt that you dodged the Cancer bullet but nobody dodges emphysema"
Him- :(

A few can't seem to seperate vaping from (another) culture, one asked If I have ever put (Other Stuff) in my PV, I explained that the device can only be used with water based products and that attemting to combust any oil or plant material would only destroy the device and further mentioned that a water based, ... containing juice does not exist. (I am a family man and do not ever use drugs other than Advil, caffiene, beer, nicotine and doctor RX's).

One suggested that I was just getting high off of the propylne glycol, I cited some of the common uses and reffered her to the wiki page for PG, she now understands which is good because she is my superior officer.

More will come.

"I want to smoke, but I don't want to die"

Well said !

I get to meet alot of people everyday as I am a door to door salesman for a large known company. Today, as I was making my sales pitch, the late 50's yld lady ask questions about my PV as she was smoking contraband cigarettes. Her fingers were dark orange from smoking too much. After telling her a bit about its benefits, she said:

"My sister just learned she has cancer, that'd be good for her. Me I'm fine, I don't have cancer yet."

Wow... I still can't believe I've heard that... I just answered: Ok but you don't have to wait for it to do something.

I explained that the device can only be used with water based products and that attemting to combust any oil or plant material would only destroy the device and further mentioned that a water based, ... containing juice does not exist.

This information isn't quite right. But I am not promoting nor trying nor searching for this type of usage of a PV. I am a chemist by trade. And actually, this is one of HC's objection that you can use pretty much any kind of narcotic with this type of equipment.

Edit: Though, pretty much any kind of narcotic can be used with tobacco. And you can buy rolling paper at every next corner stores...

I set my Mom & my sister up with everything they need. My sister seemed eager, but hasn't ever tried it yet. That disappoints me. My Mom on the other hand is using hers.

I have shown tons of people, but so far no body has gone past the interested stage, to actually looking into getting one.

I'll keep trying though

I've had the exact same result! I think they are scared to take the real plunge. Of all the people I've spoken to (and there have been A LOT) one went ahead and bought an ego kit for her 80 yr old mom yesterday. That's cool. I hope the old bird likes it :)

just an update on my post above...my friends 80 yr old mom is happily vaping an e-go! Hasn't had a smoke in 2 whole days :)

So the plan is my one friend who's ready to take the plunge wants to go to the flea market on Sunday... just warning you ahead of time - new convert! :D

I'm at 2 for 4. (I don't get out much!) The two that succeeded were both 25+ yr smokers.

I don't lie about my experience. I tell folks that it's quite a bit of nonsense to sort through all the information and misinformation, but I can get them the setup that I like for about $ 80.
I also warn them that it's still very much a 'quitting' experience for the first few days, but in my experience nowhere near as bad as the patch. I had 1 cigarette before bed for the first two days and feel no need for a cigarette since, 5 months later.

Once they cough up for the gear, I'm liberal giving them juice samples. Hell, I have tons I won't miss.

The two unsuccessful folks kinda like to party. I assume they backpedal when they're out drinking and then probably forget to charge up when they come home drunk. Or forget to check on their juice and dry hit all night in a stupor then wonder why they have a sore throat the next day!

So this is getting long, sorry. All I'd add is that I do NOT simply send folks to ECF as it's completely overwhelming - lingo, device types, carts vs tanks vs clearos vs attys etc, nebulous legal worries, out of date information, etc.

The buddy that got me started simply said 'I can get you a starter kit if you want, and this is the juice I use'. It was $90 for an ego LCD kit which is a big ripoff in retrospect, but I'd happily pay that 10 times over to have achieved the same results.

Quitting is stressful enough on its own. Why complicate it, I figure. Here's what worked for me, it was easy, and I can help set you up whenever you want to get started. Even if you only stick with it for a week you will still already have probably saved money over cigarettes.

Oh and one last thing I tell them - don't worry if it doesn't taste perfectly like a cigarette because in a week everything will taste different anyway! .

I have had countless amounts of people show interest and I have gave them lots of info but only 4 of them actually made any kind of investment. Both my parents, my brother, and a friend. My friend is the only one that stuck with with it. My brother purchased a kit but was too lazy to keep his gear stocked and after his initial stock ran out he gave it up. My parents bought a pen style, cigarette looking kit and, for the last year and half, are going to start using them next week. My mother keeps saying "I have to charge all my batteries first." LOL.... Right. Her problem is that when she orders her prefilled cartomizers she always goes for the lowest nicotine level so when she actually uses it, it doesn't satisfy her cravings. I have been telling her she needs to go for the 24mg nic because when your first starting out, vaping must satisfy your cravings. Reducing nicotine is easy once analogs are out of the picture. She doesn't listen. She also needs a better device because keeping those little pen style batteries charged is a full-time job. She doesn't listen. She just wants one that looks like a cigarette. My father on the other hand, I know won't stick with it. Just switching to a new carto is too overwhelming for him. The only time he uses it is when my mother does only to make her happy which is like 2 days out of the year. However, he likes to take hits off my provari every once and a while when he smells a delicious flavor in the air. He thinks of vaping kind of like how he thinks of cigars, as a nice treat every once and a while. I actually ordered him a lava tube today even though I know he won't stick with it but thats okay because I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection. I am thinking that he will use it quite a bit and when my mother sees that he is actually enjoying it she may see that maybe a better device would serve her well.

I've successfully converted my mother, sister her Hubby, our brother and his wife (who actually quit vaping also) 2 of my neighbors and DH's coworker. All have successfully quit a 20+ year addiction.

It's so hard and flat out scary for smokers to decide to quit, it's a terrible feeling for them, But what helped my loved ones was watching me be successful, and not pushing my PV on them. Id hang out with them while they smoked, sometimes it made me crave but I kept vaping away and one by one they fell :) I also gave each of them an eGo kit I grew out of so they had no inatial out of pocket costs.

Just remember how mad and uncomfortable people made you feel when they made comments about wanting you to quit. We have to becareful to not push smokers the other way. The more people pushed me to quit the harder I would hang on to my smokes and refuse simply out of spite.

We've all been on the other side.
