I love vaping WAY more than I enjoyed smoking.

It's like a deam come true....nicotine hits with flavor, "smoke" and a real cig feel with no hacking tar or really nasty chemicals.

Problem is I now vape 24/7 when I used to smoke mabe 1/2 to a pack a day....so the nasty chemicals and tar is gone but I'm taking Nic hits more often on the e cig cause it's so convenient.

These things can turn you into a HARD CORE Nicotine addict.

Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, unless we learn that large amounts of Nicotine and the other stuff in the juice over MANY MANY years is a very bad thing

Just saying....

Has anyone REALLY, HONESTLY used an e cig as a means to get off nic?

I'm not planning on giving up vaping.

I can't say that I really vape more than I smoked but I do sometimes vape quite a bit. However I have been vaping at between 10 and 12 mg strength which is half of what I started out using, so I hope to continue to reduce my nicotine intake which you might want to try.

I really enjoy vaping so much but cutting down my nic level has not increased my usage.

Wow, one out of the thousands of members:)

Don't get me wrong...I'll vape myself to the grave.

I now sit at my computer or in the car w/a USB passthrough and just vape constantly....before it was mabe one cig every hr or so.

Life is too short to worry about it but honestly I think these things are going to be hooking people hardcore on Nic.

I'm buying Nicotine stocks tomorrow!

Yes there has been/are quite a few members here that went to zero nic or quit vaping as well....

The hard part here on this forum is, the ones that quit vaping entirely usually stop coming on to the forum...so the new members either never know that someone is gone or miss the good bye posts like this: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/outside/78927-im-really-gonna-miss-place.html

I personally don't know if I will quit vaping, but I do know I can regulate how often I do it.....

Switching to vaping is the first step, but the next one requires more thought and planning and the "want",like with anything, has to be there.

Sooo if you are not planning to quit vaping, but are concerned about being "hardcore" you can always work your way down to a low/no nic juice and then decide where you go from there.

Good job with the switch... whether it's a first step or the only step...

How is using an e cig more convenient than smoking? I don't remember cigarettes needing a charger or a battery or having to fill carts or having to get them on the internet, all I needed was a match.

Smoking made me a hardcore nicotine addict not vaping. The only thing I'm afraid of is the huge amount of miss information being spread around.

More convenient? OH YEA BABY!

I keep 1 extra battery and one extra cartomizer with me and I'm good for the day.

1) No more running out for packs, searching for a lighter.

2) USB PassThrough on computer and in car just makes life worth living. Effortless.

3) Takes mabe 5 min. MAX (labor time) to charge the 2 batts and refill the cartomizers every night.

4) I can Vape ANYWHERE (almost)/ I can even sit at the bar and vape.

MUCH MORE CONVENIENT.

Mabe it's the cartomizers and USB PassThrough that takes away alot of the hassle.

Oh Yea...NO ASHTRAYS to look for or empty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLUS the juice is cheap as dirt!

I agree with Rockalot - I do vape much more than i smoked, but Im using less nic cos I find I dont need as much to enjoy a vape. I have a bunch of no nic juices now that are flavorful and fill the 'pacifying' need. Also a bunch of low nic ones, and some at 12mg (I started at 24mg, found it too high and came down) - I dont see that as hardcore addiction. Lots of us around too - many find they start to need the vape experience more than the drug itself. Some don't of course and that's fine too. Whatever works for people.

Just because you're vaping more doesn't mean that you're taking in more nicotine. In fact, it probably means you're not.

As far as 'learning that large amounts of nicotine over many many years might be very bad' ... well, the more years the better ;-) and there is no possible way for anyone to know that so no need to plant that seed on the newbie forum.

Quite a few people have used ecigs to get off nicotine - Really, honestly. Not the majority but quite a few.

In my case it was impossible to vape more than I smoked since i smoked 2.5 to 3 packs a day. I also believe it's way less addictive than smoking since you don't get all the additives and things that increase the effects of nicotine and if i go a few hours without vaping i don't feel withdrawl symptoms like i did when i didn't smoke for a short amount of time.

Additionally we already know some of the effects of using nicotine over a long period of time.

Parkinson's Disease: Nicotine Reduces Levodopa-induced Dyskinesias

"Studies conducted over the last 40 years show that the incidence of Parkinson's disease is about 50 percent less in smokers than in the general population. Recent studies in experimental models suggest that the nicotine in smoke may be responsible for this neuroprotective effect."

not too shabby eh?

Most of the studies that purport to be about nicotine addiction are actually about smoking addiction.

Yes, we do know that nicotine activates the dopamine pathway/nucleus accumbens, which is the pathway related to addiction (and to pleasure from food and sex) as well as other pathways related to learning and memory, and interacts with the pathways that are activated by alcohol, reducing it's effects. We also know how the nicotine receptors in the brain change in response to pure nicotine administration, and that in some cases nicotine can be neuroprotective.

We also know that cigarettes have been manipulated to make nicotine more addictive, and that cigarettes contain MAOIs. (MAOIs have been used in the treatment of depression). The MAOI levels are probably subclinical, but smoker's brains do have ~30% less MAOI A and MAOI B). Cigarettes also contain lots of other chemicals and carcinogens.

While we don't know the effects of long term vaping, we do know that clinical medications that result in increased activation of the receptors that nicotine binds to are used in the treatment of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and even Glaucoma.

By vaping, we're banking on the idea that the potential for harm is less than that from smoking, and that nicotine by itself is not as harmful, or even better not particularly harmful at all. Thus, the comparisons to caffeine. we don't know this- but i think it's better than the alternative.

What concerns me personally is the alarmist tone of the OP. The term "hard core nicotine addict" conjures up some pretty unsavory and nasty images, and is the type of phrasing that is used to scare people and to try to limit access to PVs. Yet, it's just as possible that a "hard core nicotine addict" might have better concentration, a better memory and some protection against some diseases. No, I know that's not known. We're the guinea pigs. But I'd request, that even in fun, that people try to avoid being alarmist (The OP has a number of posts with an alarmist tone). I'd like to retain the option of continuing to test the effects of long term nicotine use. Thanks.

Excellent post, and so true. The ones done vaping are pretty much gone from here.
My vaping habits have slowed down the last month or 2. I see a time when I no longer vape, but I am not hurrying it along. I think I will know when it is time.
And if you have no plans to quit vaping, I see no problem with that. It's a win win situation, imho.
