Hello,

In the years that I have been exploring this ever- and rapidly evolving world of vaping-- I have found many profound changes from the SAFE-Cig days when I thought I had discovered a secret worth its weight in gold.
You have probably noticed that there are more kinds of Marlboro out there than you have fingers and toes. IF you no longer smoke ( I do when I am stuck at a party and find that my not-so-trusty coil has chosen this moment to stop working without warning. I smoke one of the new Marlboros and I laugh-- the only thing that has changed is the box. What else can they do? What is inside is still a stick that when lit smells like dirty feet and makes you, your clothes. your hair and your breath smell like the sock that covered the foot.
So early on I encouraged people to change to e-cigs. It is still cheaper -- it is not cheap to have a supply of liquids, coils, back-up tanks, batteries, chargers, cases and a back up for all of your back ups. It is very expensive to get started and NOW--THAT is what I tell them-- and then I tell them to take a look at me and ask the pretty girls to take a sniff of me... I ask them to smell the aroma that comes from my vape and then I ask them if indeed I DO-- LOOK better, smell better, act more energetic and even happier. {I had a 3x bypass when I was 50 and had not smoked for over 15 years! The surgeon simply did not believe me. He said I had the cardiac system of a 70 year old one pack a day smoker.!!}
When they are honest.. they say yes.. You are much better in all ways. Then I tell them. And my friends it IS cheaper than the burning plants you breathe into your lungs and I will live much longer. It is the truth. I have seen three of my friends make the switch-- they made all of the mistakes. the same ones that I made-- trying to cut costs they find they have to spend more.
So now I am honest-- I tell them it takes a few hundred bucks to get started but it does not kill you and when you have the basics with a couple of back-ups-- it is cheaper than the dirty socks you smoke..
They laugh and so do I but I am not kidding. I just do not want to judge or condemn. I had quit for16 years and suffered a personal loss. I was only inches away from buying a pack when a friend gave me a few "safe cigs"...It has been the least expensive miracle I could have imagined. I have cut my nicotine from about 24 to 12 and now I am going to 6. MY God! I can sleep again!! I am so glad to be among you. Only you can understand what I am talking about. WJ

Well said Warren!

Yes, like most new hobbies, vices and interests it takes a few dollars to get the ball rolling but it is definitely a good investment! ...and if you can avoid "Shiney-itis" it's not too bad at all actually..

I quit the Marlboros at 54 years old after 40 years of burning tobacco and then did the SNUS/SKOAL/COPENHAGEN thing for about 4 years before moving on to Vaping.

Best decision I even made! (Thanks Greg Gutfeld ;) )

I've been vaping for about 3 months now and I limit myself to spending what I would've spent on analogs, which is about $150/mo. I'm not deep into mods though, and I think that's where the big money comes in. I also consider other savings too... like the $80 I've already saved on asthma inhalers I didn't need to buy and the money I'll save on doctor visits. I started making my own juice too, and that's saving me tons of money. I have spent quite a bit on cleaning supplies trying to get that nasty smell out of my clothes, bedding, carpet, couches, ect. It's amazing how terrible cigarette smoke smells after you quit. :)

Vaping isn't expensive at all.

Shinyitis is what is expensive. Shinyitis is just a loss of self control, the same loss of control that got us in trouble smoking.

A 2 stick Evod kit is $26 shipped, a 30 bottle of Halo (probably the best EMenthol made IMO) is $20 at the local B&M.

I was smoking 2 packs of 305 menthols a day. $7.40 a day. Name brand smokies would DOUBLE that amount.

I was AHEAD of the game cost wise BEFORE the end of the first week and Still had enough juice to last the 2nd week.
About $4-5 more on Ebay and you have the Kanthal and Silica to make those first 7 coils that came in the starter kit last several
months without having to buy more.

I am at about 6 weeks now and have spent In Total 1/4-1/3 what I would have spend on smokes. And that's buying nearly half
my juice at retail in local B&Ms.

Again, vaping isn't expensive, it's a Deal.

I don't think you need a couple hundred bucks to start. One can start with 40-100 bucks.
My setup which i intend to keep costs 100 euros. (istick 50w-subtank mini)
You can advice people not to start with cheap kits that they will replace in 2 weeks.
After you get the essentials it's 15-40 euros a month depending on if one rebuilds-diy juices.
It's way cheaper than smoking if you want to keep it cheap.
With big wallets anything can cost thousands of dollars, even vaping.

+1 you have to find what works, learn to optimize your setup and quit buying the shiny of the week.

My newest mod is almost a year old.
Still working on a roll of wire I bought 6-7 months ago.
Make my own juice for 16-18 bucks a pint.

Finally broke down and bought the new tank I wanted, my first new one in several months

Vaping CAN be cheaper than smoking. It is for me and the cigs I smoked cost $32/carton which is cheap for now a days. Been buying lots of vaping stuff, have enough for a few months forward now. Gave away about half of what I bought to convert others to vaping and still I am saving 30% over when I smoked.

Vaping itself is not expensive, it is the process of finding what works for each individual that may be expensive. What works for me is a Reo Grand. In fact, I now have several. I have one on loan to someone who wants to quit but is unsure of what works for them.

Looks like the Reo works for them because they have offered to buy it after only a couple weeks of use with no cigarettes. Now to teach them how to build coils and wick so I do not have to do it for them.

it depends on what you want to vape with..
I use clone mech mods $10-$20 (perfect quality)
clone rda /rta $8-$15 (perfect quality)
and DIY juice $.05 /day (better than any bought juice I've tried)

it really can't get any more cheaper than that

so in juice I spend between a pack or two a month and in hardware, don't really need it but like it I spend about 4 packs a month

I've already saver a lot of money and could virtually stop buying stuff and be set for 3 years, my only expense would be the little electricity bill resulting in charging my batteries.

the biggest pocket drainers are VW/temp control mods, original mods/atties and premade juice, and of course the worst, prefilled cigalikes

True story. The closest b&m to me is about an hour and a half away so I can't try anything first. I've got a pile of tanks and juices that I absolutely hate. And I don't know anyone who vapes so I have no idea what to do with them all.

I spend about $10 per month on vaping. That's the total cost for both me and my wife combined.

Vaping is only expensive if you turn it into a hobby or feel the need to buy every new and shiny thing you see. If you find a setup that works for you and stick with it, it is unbelievably cheap. Especially if you're DIYing you juice.

Like with most things these day, the start up costs can be a bit pricey. It seems like most are never satisfied with the first rig they buy regardless of how low end/high end it might be. We seem to always want to try something a little different ... just to see if it might be a little better.

After the newness wears off, and we find what we like, vaping can become very cheap tho'.
I went all of 2014 without spending a penny to vape ... not even for juice, just to see how that would work out for me.

Of course then I had to rush out and buy a couple of new PVs ... just because

Yep I am using 1.99 Evod clones which I recoil/rewick with cotton.
I also have some genuine Kanger T3S's that I got for under $2 each on clearance. NO gurgling or anything bad from the Evod clones, The genuine T3s's do tend to flood a bit if you let the juice get too low.

For my batteries I got some Evod blister packs with a 650 ma VV battery, charger and evod tank for $7.95 each. Drilled out the air holes on the Evods and they work great. I have a tank for each flavor for less than the cost of what most pay for one replacement wick.

I make my own juice with natural no additive flavorings for under .10/ml.

    THIS IMO is the key.
It's easy to afford a nice setup when you don't spend ~$10/day for juice.

    add:
Have you noticed that most manufacturers want to sell you rigs that use MORE JUICE
    Wonders why that is
