Be careful when you advise your friends that vaping is cheaper

For me, currently, vaping is far more expensive. I smoke a pack every 4 months right now, so that's around $2 a month, and vaping probably is going through that amount in 3 to 7 days. But, ya know, if we are comparing costs, my cold turkey days were kinda less expensive than both vaping and smoking. So, it kinda depends where a person is at during a phase of their life, cause yeah vaping for me, on average, is less than my daily smoking habit was, more expensive than my moderate smoking phase (current) and infinitely more expensive than my cold turkey phase.

If it were only about cost, the choice would be rather obvious. But knowing all that I feel I know now, I very much enjoy the current phase the most. I recall during cold turkey days what it felt like to have occasional thoughts / expressions that seemed oh so righteous to downplay smoking / nic using. But I'd trade that in a second with moderate smoking, regular vaping. Now, my disdain is reserved for those who feel an incessant need to bash smoking when, seemingly regardless of their experience and level of knowledge, they know not what they speak of.

Yep especially for the high powered vapers. You can easily spend $100 per week on ejuice esp if you buy it all at a B&M. My advise, make your own everyday vape juice yourself and just get some of the more expensive stuff for an occasional vape.

With all due respect to a High Priest of Tootle Puffing. ;)

$100 a week in B&M juice isn't a NEED to quit smoking, it's a "luxurious" desire.

Yes, people vape and Need to vape differently but I would argue I make a pretty good LOW baseline.

I smoked for almost 40 years, 2 packs a day at the end, there were some periods probably closer to 3 PAD. Now, these Were 305 Menthol LIGHTS (and Basic Menthol Lights before that).

I am vaping 3-4 1.6 ml tanks a day and haven't had Any desire nic wise to smoke a single ciggie. That's around (high side) 42 ml A Week. That, premium juice priced at my shop would be about $35 a week. Even if you bump my consumption up by 50% you're still at about $50 retail for the week.

If you Desire More vapor and more flavor than that $50 a week, that's certainly your prerogative but it's then IMO, a desire, not a Need (to quit smoking).

I did say high powered vapers. We are not that. Many of those will vape over 10 ml/day. And if they buy the gourmet juice... $100 may be overestimating a bit but not by much for many of them.

True story. The closest b&m to me is about an hour and a half away so I can't try anything first. I've got a pile of tanks and juices that I absolutely hate. And I don't know anyone who vapes so I have no idea what to do with them all.

You can get yourself verified and then either sell it in the classified section or trade it or give it away in the PIF forum.

I spent between $450 and $600 a month on tobacco. Mostly because of the habit 2 PAD and a can of Copenhagen a day. All bought by the single can and pack for the last 15 to 20 years because I was going to stop next week. I also liked cigars, good ones, and good pipe tobacco.

Sometimes I spend that on vaping, sometimes I spend less, sometimes I spend more. I do not really keep track of it, tried to at the first but that was depressing.

I did not start vaping to save money. I started to switch to a less harmful habit turned hobby. Vaping is as cheap or expensive as you want or let it be.

Now that I think about it.... Prior to vaping I kept a highend gaming rig of about 4K in parts up to date with annual or more often upgrades, plus the newest consoles and accessories, gamer servers, teamspeak server. Subscriptions and games. Then I switched to vaping. Between building coils, trying new devices and juices, making my own juices because I can and like them better than 90% of what is out there.

I am saving money. I do not have time to play games and have not upgraded my machine in almost 2 years, except for the new video card, cause it was on sale. :D

I have spent a fair amount on equipment since I started vaping about 15 months ago. Some of those items I've since sold, and I'm sitting on all the mods I think I'll need for now. I'm playing with toppers and have multiples of the different tanks because it makes it quick for me to rotate flavors if I haven't finished a tank. I have DIY supplies to last me quite some time....

This is a hobby, as well as smoking cessation. I consider part of my expenditures as "entertainment expense", so I don't feel badly about what I'm spending. However, vaping can certainly be done on a budget. It just depends on one's own personal discipline as to how much one feels comfortable spending

I agree that vaping can be cheaper than smoking. The key word is "can". In my case, it is not. Like a lot of people, I turned it into a hobby. So in my case, vaping is more expensive. But that's alright. I wouldn't trade one of my mods for a lifetime of free cigarettes.

Get verified and put them up on our classifieds. One vaper's junk is another's score....

THIS IMO is the key.
It's easy to afford a nice setup when you don't spend ~$10/day for juice.

add:
Have you noticed that most manufacturers want to sell you rigs that use MORE JUICE
Wonders why that is

Hmmm... maybe that's why cartotanks have gone so "out of style"... the extortionate juice sellers weren't selling enough!

I'm a tight-wad poor broke penny-pincher of the first order; and yes, I saved money compared to smoking, in the very first month. I went thru quite a few months, maybe about 4-5, of crashing around trying to find my ideal vape, and bought some things I wish now I hadn't, but it was all useful info, so I could FIND my ideal vape. Since finding kayfuns, the only tank that interests me anymore is another kayfun (clones.. I don't have triple-digit disposable income!), though I still experiment with RDAs (again, clones). And I still save a ton of money, especially since I stopped buying ejuice and started making my own.

The best thing, economically, about vaping, is that once you find your ideal vape, then you can spend money when you have it... but not need to spend much at all, when money is tight -- very much unlike smoking, when that ROBBERY amount of money had to come right off the top, before you paid any bills or bought any food.

getting your nic fix is cheaper by vaping rather than smoking...
now if you want to talk about the hobby aspect then, vaping is expensive, I didn't use cigarettes as a hobby bit did smoke cigars. I good cigar was about $30 and you smoked in 1 day, a few cigar cutters, a humidifier, a few nice torch lighters and good ashtrays etc, a hobby could be as cheap or as expensive as you want. just no need to compare a hobby to an addiction and for me cigarettes were just that, an addiction.
