I think all our politicians have a clue, they know exactly what they are doing. The question is, who are these people really working for?

As to this video, very nice find, and props to at least one politician having the guts to stand up.

The majority of politicians are working for themselves - every decision that they embark on starts with "What can I get out of this"

jest my opinion :D

I'll go even further ;) Every politician are working for themselves - every decision made is for their own self interest - as is the case for every human being. Although they don't always 'say' it. It's the Public Choice theory of economics with regards to politicians:

Public choice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

... not the absolute best description but you get the idea.

And there's a difference between 'selfish' and 'rational self-interest' - sometimes selfishness isn't in your own self interest. But almost nobody, esp. the media and politicians, pundits pushing certain politics, either knows that or will admit to that. It doesn't fit the template for people they hate.

Usually what is in the self-interest of a politician is getting reelected. And they will cater to whomever has the biggest group of voters in their state, district, etc. When the biggest group is those looking for handouts - welfare, gov't contracts, gov't support of their companies, corporations to give them a leg up on their competitions through taxes and regulations that THEY can handle but their competitors can't, then all true 'rights' become 'expendible'.

That's what we have seen with cigarettes, and other substances that may harm the individual but have no real harm or junk science type harm to others that is used to justify the intervention. ecigs, alcohol, and certain foods will continue to be a target, esp. if they can be labelled as a 'sin tax' or something that taxes the healthcare industry, now that it is virtually socialized. Now if you do something 'unhealthy' it's not like before when you were only harming yourself, but now you're harming (stealing from) others because they have to pay for it.
