I'm not great at the intro thing so I'm just gonna explain how I ended up here :)

I'm 32 years old, been a pack a day smoker for 16 years. Pall Mall menthols have been my brand of choice for a very long time. Over the years I have tried to quit multiple times, using gum or patches, and after going through that misery and the result of having everyone around me fearing for their lives I had basically resigned myself to the fact that I'd be a smoker until I died - and probably directly because of it. I honestly didn't want to quit anymore just because it meant me suffering through not only the initial withdrawals, but wanting a cig every time I saw or smelled someone else smoking.

My husband met a new coworker who was using an e-cigarette on the job, and having never seen it before he asked alot of questions. The guy claimed to have been a smoker for over 30 years and was able to quit by replacing his habit several years ago with vaping.

The hub is a non-smoker and has hounded me FOREVER about quitting. The smell, the cost, the health risks....I hear it all the time from him and my 3 children as well. When he came home and asked me to research vaping I was kindof annoyed that he was pestering me about cigarettes again. But I did anyway to save argument. I was both intrigued and overwhelmed. So much information, and too many choices to make this easy.

I ended up reading as much as I could and choosing a Volt. I was worried about all the bad things people were saying about the cigarette style hardware, not producing enough vapor, battery life sucks, etc etc. After watching several videos of people using them and hearing what they had to say about this one being better, I was hopeful enough to try it. I ordered some extra cartomizers from the same company but wasn't impressed with their available liquid selection, so I ordered a few different liquids from 2 other companies.

I have not picked up a cigarette since the day I got it in the mail. I haven't had any withdrawals whatsoever. The absolute most impressive thing about my experience so far has been the fact that my first week doing this included a holiday where I had company over, including smokers. Before when I tried to quit the WORST part was having to resist the sight and smell of another person smoking near me....this weekend I had several people smoking in my home, we were drinking and playing pool-both also triggers for me-and I never faltered. In fact, I ended up telling everyone it would be the last time I allowed smoking inside at my place. Without needing the cigarette myself, the smell wasn't very appealing anymore. Not only did I not want their smokes, everyone wanted to try mine!

Anyway most of the info and opinions I found that helped me decide to try this was found in these forums, so here I am - hopefully to stay. I am only a week in but I am already almost confident enough to toss the last few packs of Pall Malls I have in my pantry. A month ago I'd never have believed that today I could be doing this for real, and without having to stash bail money:p

I have no comparative experience to say I wouldn't like other hardware, the hub's coworker told me to get a 510 ego but I'm as addicted to the habit as the nicotine, and it just wasn't as ciggie-like as I needed to convince myself that I can replace my former love. Once I've gotten more confident that I can resist the real deal permanently I will probably add to my arsenal, but for now what I have feels perfect for me.

Thanks for reading, sorry for the novel...but I'm really happy to be here!

Your doing fantastic . Took me a little over two weeks , to throw out the rest of the cancer sticks . Been doing this , for less than 2 months , and already feel a lot better , sleep better , less congestion , taste buds returning . And the best part is , I don't smell like dirty ashtrays , anymore . Good job , stick with it .

First off, CONGRATS to you for taking the leap! It's been just over a month for me and I am truly amazed that I have not picked up one analog since picking up the PV. Something I never thought possible. (Having tried many cessation techniques and products and having smoked analogs for over 25 years) Of course, I do attribute a lot of my success to finding this forum!

Be positive, and keep it up!

Congrats to you!! I have been vaping strong since 4-1-11! No one can smoke in my house now. Sure is funny to watch my son go out the front door to smoke. And he isn't allowed to smoke in my truck either! Maybe someday he will vape too. But he is 29 and doesn't think he needs to quit. I know my dog and my 5 birds thank me everyday for not smoking any more!! I was smoking up to 3 packs a day!! Congrats again and keep at it!!

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcomes and sharing your experiences with me :) And for having the patience to read all my wordiness lol.

I would never admit it to him, but I think it's funny too that I've been arguing with the hubs for years about the smoking in the house and vehicles and now here I am putting my foot down about the other people's stink.

My parents are in their 60's and smoke about 5 packs a day between them - I'm hoping that at some point my experience can influence them to try vaping too. I have seen so many success stories here already I can't believe I hadn't known about this before. I'd seen maybe an ad or two over the last year but never paid it any mind, lumped it in with all the other junk hocking. I guess I figured anything worth it's salt would be all over the place, suppliers wouldn't be able to keep up. Doesn't seem right that it was this easy for me and people aren't hearing about it everywhere. I'm gonna shout it from the friggin rooftops myself ;)

Congratulations! It's amazing how many people quit using PV's even though they never expect to be able to. Good on you!

And good on your hubby for taking the time to take an interest and ask questions of his co-worker so he could understand how e-cig's work, and for suggesting (ok, pestering!) you to give it a try. He must be soooo happy for you right now!!
