On tap for my palate tonight is Dogfish Head Palo Santo Maroon . It's a very dark brown ale that's aged in tanks made of Paraguayan Palo Santo wood. This wood gives it a beautiful complex flavor of caramel and vanilla. I only drink this during the cooler months; it's just too heavy for the summer months. One has to be careful with this wonderful brew as it comes in at 12% ABV. I made the mistake of drinking this like Budweiser the first time I drank it. We were watching a football game and I wasn't paying attention to how much I was drinking. It's the last time I drank two 4 packs in one sitting.:D

If you like Shock Top Pumpkin, you should seek out some of the other pumpkin beers. You will love them far more.

The reason people say they don't like Shock Top is because it's an Anheuser Busch product. Try something like Punkin Ale from Dogfish Head and your opinion of Shock Top will drastically change. It's kind of like using a Blu or Mark Ten ecig because they have no idea what's available at the vape shop.

I tried the Shock Top Pumpkin last night (it was in a variety pack) and really didn't like it all. It looks like Dogfish can be purchased at several Southern California locations so I'll try to hunt it down.

edit: I called a local liquor store and they said they have over 10 different kinds of Dogfish in stock :toast:.

USA. State: Inebriated.
Labyrinth by Uinta Crooked Line is my favorite beer of all time, hands-down. The bottle design is rad too:

The beer is straight-up "heavy metal", it's a black ale brewed with licorice, and it really shows. It's a VERY heavy, dark beer, but I can sip the stuff down like water, it just tastes so damn good.

I'm a huge IPA fan, but recently have been getting more into stouts/porters/black ales. My go-to is Sierra Nevada (Torpedo IPA when it's available), and on a Friday night I'll usually pick up a pack of Dogfish or Long Hammer (Long Hammer makes AWESOME IPA's.)

My all time favorite has to be Thomas Hardy's Ale, it's a very nice barley wine, I even have a couple bottles of 1997 vintage still aging, waiting for the right occasion. I've always preferred Scottish ales, Irish stouts and Russian Imperial stouts.

I used to homebrew a lot, full grain mashes with my own yeast strains. It's a lot of work so I buy my brews these days. I do have two local establishments very close to home that 8-10 taps each that they rotate different and very unusual brews on, and they serve very good food to boot. The waiters have gotten to the point of handing my GF the regular menu, and me the beer menu.....:)

Stosh, my memory doesn't serve me well, but we have definitely met. It has been a long time, but we know a lot of the same people because I generally hang out with a lot of old timers on ECF. It so nice to see you again. The Thomas Hardy Ale you speak of reminds me a lot of Dogfish Head's Sixty One: it's Dogfish's 60 IPA mixed with red wine... that's an over simplification, but you get the idea.:) Be well, my friend.:)

Thomas Hardy Ale is 100% barley, all beer all the time, although nearly flat.. .It runs about 12-14% alc as I remember (don't quote me) and is properly served in a brandy snifter, at cellar temperature. Haven't run into Dogfish's 60 IPA but will try almost any beer.

lol. don't pay attention to me tonight, I'm drinking Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron which runs at 12% ABV. It's a beautiful very dark brown ale that's age in Paraguayan Palo Santo wood, which gives a beautiful taste that is indescribable--most beer/ale is aged in oak. Dogfish 60/90/120 is generally consider one the best IPA's available. Have a great night my friend. and I'm gone... from here.

I haven't tried dogfish 60 yet. Though for some reason I find myself pulling away from readily available brews and that's probably why. Like NT short runs, I save my money for stuff that's only around for a short time before it's gone for a while. I have a couple regulars that are readily available that I keep around as a stock, but mostly when I go on a beer run to the bottle shops an hour away I buy the hard to find/limited release stuff.

I appreciate that. Dogfish Head 60/90IPA has become ubiquitous. While I am a big fan, it doesn't matter where I go, I can get it. I go out to Vegas several times a year and most brew pubs you can find it, but because I can get it at home, I tend not to order it. I am always looking for something unique.:)

If you want to try something different, look around for Alimony Ale - The Bitterest Brew in America.....that's the actual name and the method of advertising.....

Stosh, if you stop back by, I believe the last time we spoke my user name was gatorfan (I changed it to sgt.pepper about 3 years ago). And if I recall right, you are a Giants fan. we met in the welcome thread that Whiskey started. anyways, have a good one.:)
