Hey.
Been reading a lot and decided to seek advice from the pros. been vaping for about 3 weeks now and loved the first 2.

I picked up the aspirek4 starter kit which packed a great punch when I first brought it home. It had the stock .27 ohm coil pre installed.

I started running a 70/30 vg/pg mix and it worked quite well, albeit quite hot at the tip.

I bought the .4 ohm coils to replace as my b&m recommended.
I am still getting great clouds but the flavour is gone completely. Trouble is I love how much cooler everything is and want to stay with the .4ohm. Even after a good priming and burping every 5 hits or so. And it started hurting my throat out of nowhere.
I have a feeling that I need a vw mod to properly use this coil.

Any advice would be helpful.

I'm not a fan of non-adjustable (power) hardware. Also, vaping 0.27 (with no VW or TC) is way beyond my tolerance. If you prefer a cooler vape, maybe the 0.4 is better for your taste. Clearly you lost power even with a seemingly small change up in the resistance of the coil but not to the extent of total flavor loss.

Go back to your vender & explain the problem. It will take a while to find your sweet spot.
I have no idea why your throat hurts after 5 hits. High VG mixes are viscous & slow to wick if you are "chaining"..

I should clarify. I have been burping my resivoir to avoid dry hits about every 5 hits because of the high viscosity. As I have read on previous forums. And I have been getting minimal to no flavour but big clouds still. After about 2 days of this my throat hurt.

It seemed to be a good starter kit but I am hoping that a vw mod can fix my problem. Trouble is the recommended wattage on the .27 and .4 are within 5 watts of each other. And my non adjustable power source should be capable of properly firing both

Using an unregulated mod, you don't have any way to make adjustments with your vaping except for changing coil resistance. You're getting the same power to the coil dependent upon the voltage charge of the battery.

With a regulated mod with variable wattage, you can make adjustments in power to the coil. This gives a lot more precision and options as daviedog said. And it will make finding your individual "sweet spot" of flavor and vapor much easier. The coil resistance you choose will be pretty much redundant when using a regulated mod, as you can adjust the power output to suit your preference.

Sometimes I feel like vaping at 30 watts. Sometimes I feel like vaping at 40 watts, depending upon my mood. With a mech, I can't really make that adjustment easily. With a regulated mod, I can.

Thx for those links. Do you have any recommendations for mods.
I have the aspire cleito and really like the tank. I think I need something capable of 80watts but unsure of voltage(I think they are one in the same).my b&m online seemed to only have the Eleaf ipower 80w at a decent price as I don't want to break the bank quite yet.

Honestly, I haven't purchased a mod in a couple of years, and its been a couple of years since I worked in a vape shop. A few of the regulated mods made by Eleaf seem to be quite affordable and popular today. Look into the Eleaf Pico or Eleaf iStick models. Check out YouTube reviews of whatever devices you are considering. Check out My Vapor Store or Discount Vapors as an online vendor for prices and availability.

If you had a VW mod then you'd know that too low a power setting and the vape is wet & gurgly and the taste is usually very strong, often too strong. Too high a setting and the vape is dry and tasteless. The higher the resistance of the coil normally the lower wattage you want in your power setting. You've switched to a higher resistance coil but the mod you have can't be adjusted accordingly so in effect you've now got too high a power setting with it and you've lost the taste.
Power settings depend on a lot of things, not just coil resistance. The juice your are vaping and your own taste preferences also effect the setting. Stated power settings are but guidelines and I've found myself vaping on a 0.2 ohm coil at 60w with one juice and 30w with another juice, with the same atty and coil setup.
So yes I'd agree with you it is time for a VW/TC mod.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm not someone who like to purchase anything online so I think I will hit a few shops near me.
Not a bad idea. Expect price markup to be around 30-60% in the shops. But nothing compares to actually seeing and handling the mod in hand prior to purchase. :)

I will second the PICO. It was my first high powered mod purchase and I haven't looked back. And I use an assortment of Aspire tanks on mine. Two K3's and a Nautilus mini with 1.8 coils and two Atlantis EVO's with .4-.5 coils.

I'll third the Pico. I have an Atlantis Evo tank on it and I love it. Maybe check it out at a store, but order it online. The markup is insane. I love my B&M and do try to purchase what I can there but they really take you over the coals as far as starter kits go. I wasn't a fan of the Melo tank that comes with the kit and have found the Atlantis Evo with the .5 coil much more to my liking. I also bought a couple of 18650 batteries and an external nitecore charger, I can vape all day and not worry about having to charge. I'm in love.

Welcome and glad you joined. Don't feel too bad, you are not the first to leap into advanced vape gear and skip the fun of finding what works best for you.
You purchased an advanced starter kit. A starter kit does not necessarily equal a beginners kit. Could have been better served to buy a beginners kit/device.
Suggest you begin at the start of vaping and learn from the bottom up.
