Hello all,
So I'm planning to take my first plunge in the DYI pool. I found a sale I'd like to take advantage of here:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/suppliers-labor-day-sales/239864-diyflavorshack-happy-thanksgiving-sale-20-off-plus-free-20ml-choice.html

I intend on ordering:

ould you all suggest some "must have" flavors that will help get me on my way? So many flavors on the site look awesome, but I'm assuming more basic flavors are to be used in DYI trials.

On a side note, I usually vape 50/50 or 80/20 blends at 16%-18%. Which nicotine base would you recommend I get. I'm leaning towards the 50/50, but thought I'd ask while I'm here.

I'm no expert, in fact I'm just getting started in DIY. But, when it comes to flavors there really isn't a definitive answer to your 'must have' query. As is stated everywhere, taste is an individual thing. And you don't really give an indication of what you like to vape other than blend. I'm guessing that when you say 16-18%, you're referring to 16-18mg nic strength?

When it comes to DIY, you really need to be looking at what YOU want to vape, so go for the flavors you're most inclined to enjoy or those you would most like to try. When you look through the list of flavors on sites like DIYFlavorShack or OneStopDIY (My preference), you can't help but get ideas!

MUST HAVEs would be nic liquid, PG, and VG. Nic liquid is unflavored, and you can get it in several different blends, or in just straight PG or VG. For your preference, I'd look at 36mg or 48mg. You can download ejuice calculators or visit calculator websites and plug in the values for 50/50 36mg or 48mg nic juice, enter your desired target amount of 3ml, 5ml, 10ml batches and target nic strength and see how much unflavored nic it would take to make each batch, so you can pic the strength and size of the bottle you want to initially purchase.

As ar as 'must have' flavors...well...take a look at some recipes that are available here and on other sites. If you see any that you're interested in making, select those flavors for your first time out.

Just some thoughts from a fellow beginner...

Um, what do you like? Have you taken a look at the recipe sub-forum and found any you want to try? (Get those)

What is 16-18%? 100mg/ml nicotine liquid is approximately 10% nicotine, so I'm a bit confused. Either way go with nicotine that is suspended in the highest portion of you PG/VG mix is a typical route and usually works well.

I'd also suggest not getting too worried about final PG/VG ratios to start off unless you have bad reactions from one or the other. (Or possibly some equipment issues I am not familar with...)

Thanks for the quick reply and info. I guess I was just wondering if there are some flavors that are really compatible with all kinds of mixes and not just effective with a select few recipes. Example would be vanilla as I'm sure it would be used a whole lot more than beer flavor.

I guess I'll just order several basic flavors to start like vanilla, cream, chocolate, coffee......
