Hi guys,

Need some help here ;) so I got the Griffin last weekend. Built My first coil and it was fine wicked perfect ! So tonight I decided to try another build 3.5 diameter 24 gauge canthal wire and 5 wraps each coil. Wicked it and placed the cotton slightly inside the juice channels right to the bottom of the groove Just below the removable ring. The first tank I took the Allen key that came with the kit and poked it through all four back corner of the juice Channels to make sure it wasn't jammed up. This time around I poked the front corners of the juice channels.installed it on my mod and for the first quarter tank it was great! Then I got atomizer short... Could not get the coil to fire!Took it apart made sure all the post screws were tight, I noticed some legs were sticking out a bit too much trimmed them. When I'm done wicking the coil I put the cap on and prime it from the top. Just like the first coil and it worked perfect. So I put it back on my mod and it reads a different ohm this time and it's spitting back hot liquid in my mouth:( did I put too much juice on the actual coil itself when priming it? I put a good 4-5 drops, the first tank I thank I did the same thing... Anyways it was also leaking a lot from the bottom. The longer puffs I take and it seems like the hot spit back starts to go away at the end! Please help!! Back to the Smok for now. Hoping I wake up tomorrow and it's magically ok or else I'll have to test my luck again tomorrow night :(

Thanks @rice721 glad you pointed that out lesson learned. its a .31 coil and I brought it down all the way to 30 watts and was getting spit back. Did I maybe flood the coil when priming it? Would that cause spit back? And the leakage?

Even if you flooded the coil while priming it, after a few puffs under normal vaping, the wicking should balance back to equilibrium.

My guess with the spit-back is just the limited wraps of the coil you made. Perhaps the power is concentrated on such a narrow area that its causing the wick to not heat up proportionally. All the heat concentrated in the middle is causing the juice in the middle to heat up quicker than whats around it and thus spitting back.

As for leakage it has to do with the wick. I remember you said you had it down to where you enjoyed the vape. I would go back to that build.

If you really want to tinker around with your builds why not invest in another tank (thats a bit different than the griffin) and go from there? Seems like you've hit the sweetspot with the griffin in your previous post.

The short might have been a coil touching the cap - they're pretty close.
The spit-back can be from coil position OR wicking setup.
I think your coils look basically OK, and might just need to be "nudged" into a different position.
Perhaps LOWER them, just a little bit - slight changes to coil position and wicking can make a BIG difference in the vape!!

Looking at the bottom pic: the left coil might be sticking out far enough to touch the steel in the bottom tank section, (when attached), and the right coil might be making contact with one of the two posts, (or the leg/s of the left coil). Each condition will cause a short, I believe. Either way, the main problem I see is the way you're positioning your coils. Try to get them even and close to the posts without touching them, (or touching the legs of the opposite coil).

I still miss now and again. Old shaky hands have a hard time with the wicks. You just regroup and try again. Most of the time you will nail it once you are used to what works............But even a seemingly perfect build can get bumped/jimmied/etc. and end up wrong.

Never worry over it, just go again and get that perfect vape ripping!:D

I must say, though my Go to is the Orchid tanks(several in use) Since I purchased a Bellus mini - I love the Removable coil base. No worry over emptying a tank to service a build.:thumb:

I am fairly new to and still learning to build on the Griffin, so take this for what it is worth. I watched some videos on wicking and one guy used coil wire for his "pokey thing". I used some 24g wire, made enough wraps for a decent "handle", and trimmed off one leg and left the other a couple inches long. Still fooling with it, but like how it gets the cotton through the ring without packing it. So far, working fairly well.

You are going to get lots of personal opinions. Seems(For Me) Larger Wraps handle power better but at the cost of less flavor to vapor. For this reason I tend to stick with 2.5mm or 3mm for most builds.
@crxess ok noted thanks. I just filled the tank up again and was getting slight spit back again just for the first few puffs. The flavor I'm getting is insane though. Almost too much haha.
