Hello fellow vapers!
I just ordered my first rda on a black Friday sale. The Dead Rabbit RDA really caught my eye although I did not wanted to buy a RDA as my first rebuildable atomizer. Anyway, I already have a smok Stick V8 Baby kit for trying out vaping and got hooked onto it really fast. Now I'm looking for a mod but to be honest I did not found one that I like. Can you recommend a few mods that are on the $40-$45 price range? Got a few that might be good: Wismec RX2/3, iJoy Captain, iJoy Capo, Smoant Battlestar and the Smoant Charon. The one that I fancy the most from these is the Wismec Rx2/3 but a lot of people complain about the 510 connection. Is it that bad? Sorry I'm a newbie. I don't even know which wattage level I want to vape on, because I never tried a VW mod. The only knowledge that I have is from youtube videos so forgive me that. :)
Thank you in advance and have a nice day!
Cheers!

Hi, welcome to ECF. The smoant mod gets great reviews. The wismec mod does seem to have some connection issues with tanks that may be solved with an insulator between the tank and the mod, if that mod is your true desire. They're inexpensive and you can pick one up on Fasttech cheaply if you so desire. Best of luck,

Anna

Instead of the wismec 2/3 get the 'Vaporshark Hedron' - its got the wismec rx200s chip that is really good but it's coupled with a Vaporshark body, hence no 510 issues. It's a nice collaboration with Wismec and Vaporshark that is getting excellent reviews.

Welcome to ECF!

Thank you all for replying guys!
I think I will stick with the Battlestar. :) Can you recommend batteries for it?

This would be really nice if they had it on fasttech or gearbest.

How about the VTC5A's?

Here's the battery chart for you.

https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/attachments/img_4813-jpg.643937/

You need a higher current rating if your going to vape at higher wattages. If your vaping at lower wattages you can go with the lower current ratings and get a higher capacity battery.

(Look at what Mooch says the batteries are capable of on that chart, those are the true ratings when he tested them)

My son is currently using the Sony vtc5 (not the 5a) and can get a true 52 watts per battery. (So two batteries is 104 watts, three is 156 watts) the 5a would do a little better than that and the LG HB6 better still.

But, if you don't need that kind of power, then I do suggest going with a higher capacity battery (more mah) so your not changing your batteries as often.

You can have high current or high capacity - never both.

Hi and welcome. It has been my experience the 510 problems on the RX mods have to do with the length of the 510 connector on the topper. If the threads are too long, they depress the contact too much and it won't connect. The connector in the mod can be replaced, but most people don't want to bother. The right idea is just to get an atty with the right size 510. I have three or four of the 1st gen RX, the RX200. With some toppers they are annoying. With others, there's no problem at all and they are the best regulated mods I own in the price vs. usability department, if not exactly super top drawer equipment. I do not have, but hear good things about, the Smoant entries as well.

As for batteries, take a look at Mooch's chart, linked by @Opinionated above. The calculations for a regulated mod are complex, but a good rule of thumb is 60 watts per 20A battery. If you pick a 20A cell for a two battery mod, limit your watts setting to 120 watts. If you go with the 2/3, then you could easily reach 180 watts in 3-battery mode. Frankly, that ought to be more than enough; I don't know a lot of people who live up above 100 watts all the time. The vape gets pretty hot up above 70ish watts-- for me it gets hot above 40-- and most people usually stay down lower. Still, if you are concerned, or you really want to vape that high, by all means go with a 25A cell. I like and use the Sony VTC4s and VTC5As, as well as the LG HD2C. Be aware going to a higher amp battery will reduce time between charges, another reason to consider a 3 battery mod.

Welcome to the board.

Thank you for your kind support! I think I'll stick with the Battlestar and with the VTC6s. Don't like hot vapor so I assume 120W will be more than enough for me.
Welcome and glad you joined.
RDA's are significantly simpler to use than tanks. You May find the Dead Rabbit your main go to. For a cool vape:
In General higher ohm (higher gauge wire) coils/lower wattage (generally MTL) vaping will:
Heat the coil somewhat slower, which may produce “less” vapor
Provide A “cooler” tasting vape, which can produce more flavor
May use less E-Juice (<$ less money)
Prolong battery life (<$)
Prolong coil life (<$)
Prolong wick life (<$)
Less likely zero spit back
May result in less PV maintenance/Issues
Less irritation to non vapers
Aids stealth vaping
Less exposure to carcinogens at high temps
Longer drip tips promote a cooler vape.
