The NRT industry is "smoke and mirrors." It is aimed at treating the so-called addiction to nicotine. But it doesn't actually do that. As soon as treatment ends, relapse begins. Think about that: When treatment ends, relapse begins. Doesn't it make sense to prevent relapse by getting rid of the cause? The reason why e-cigarettes are effective for 20% of smokers who had no intention of quitting, and effective at an unheard-of-rate for those who do want to quit, is because "treatment" doesn't end. Unlike NRTs, e-cigarettes are intended to be used indefinitely. Like NRTs, they deliver nicotine while eliminating the hazardous exposure to tar, particulates, toxins, and carcinogens created by combustion. But unlike NRTs, they allow the user to select the nicotine level that wards off cognitive and mood impairments, and they deliver the vapor in a familiar way that mimics the act of smoking. Smoke-free since 3/27/2009.

""Given how hard the manufacturers push them – there was a period when you could barely enter Euston station without passing some loon holding a plastic stick in one hand and a plastic smile on their face, as though standing in the street pretending to smoke wasn't a mortifying development in their personal life plan – I think the reason they haven't taken off is that they look rather silly.

Even the phrase "electronic cigarette" is intrinsically preposterous, like it's hopped from the pages of a cheap sci-fi novel from the 1950s. And if we're going to use something from that genre, I'm holding out for a jetpack: London to Glasgow, eight minutes.""

Lol, they say theres a million ecig users in the UK- YAY!.

The writer of this article has no clue about the physical and psychological grip of addiction and how individualized it is.

Well the way I see it. The writer could care less.
She got paid for a no pun intended puff piece to stir up the trolls it worked.

Just dash it off quickly and move on to the next. No time wasted checking facts.

My comment was challenged by Mr. Out.

You have made 75 comments on e- cigarettes - mainly on American websites for over a year now. So, who are you working for? Don't you think that you should be more open and less of an ordinary joe when you post?

    I responded:

I am using my real first initial and last name. I collect a monthly check from the Social Security Administration, and a smaller check from the pension fund of my last employer (which, before you ask, is not a tobacco company or an e-cigarette company.) Actually, I have been commenting for over 3 years and have made a lot more than 75 comments. Why do I keep commenting about e-cigarettes? Because they saved my life.

I struggled to stop smoking for 45 years and when I finally found something that really works, I was outraged to learn that the very organizations that claimed they want to help people stop smoking are out to ban the products! What does that say about their motives?

I am an unpaid volunteer for CASAA, a non-profit organization founded for the purpose of educating the public about smoke-free alternatives and keeping these alternatives available to help those who can't quit smoking any other way.

So who are you? Is "trotitout" your real name? Who do you work for?

    Just making friendly conversation.

Received a very nice response from "Mr. Out."

Thanks for your fulsome response. My interest was piqued because you seemed to know a lot about this product and when I checked your profile all you write about is this product! I am happy to accept your explanation and think that if you flagged your interest in this product and stated your unpaid voluntary work that would be good.

On the subject: I am a smoker of e-cigarettes and agree with your points. Happy days.

Sorry, I can't disclose my identity because of the nature of the work that I do.

    Kind regards, T.G.

And right under that, a new challenger:

Why are you posting on a UK website? Do you honestly think that Brits care what someone as fixated as you thinks?

    To which I responded:

Is UK the only country in the world that has smokers, or that has former smokers using e-cigarettes? Some readers (whether Brits or not) will care about what I think and some won't.
