nuck ... what you fail to take in to account, is how hard users use these things -- anything soldered gets beat to death quickly (drops/shorts/etc...) Manufacturers/suppliers/etc... are looking for the least problem free devices -- Adding any type of regulator, with MOSFET to drive an electric switch is bound to fail within a few months.

Can it be done - absolutely, thus the reason modders do it. But these modders also know how to fix the issues that may arise, something your everyday user (99.9% of users) can't.

Just saying :) hehe

I used to think that way but then I look at my PSP and my mobile phones. Those are infinitely more complex with exponentially more issues to go wrong and yet they withstand some serious abuse (the PSP is used by my whole tribe)

Some of the switches are rated for 10,000,000 presses minimum and mosfets are cheap, tiny and incredibly durable.

I'd bet the farm the first quality mod that manages power gets a big head start. Have a look at the new ego from Janty. All they need to do is put in power management and a better bat they are at the promised land.

I'm not going vendor specific, just saying that you can never get a truly reliable vape if you rely directly on a battery cycle.

Fair enough. I am NOT an engineer nor the designer. I'm sorry that my secondhand retelling is insufficient (that's why I'm a technician, not an engineer), but the simple fact that when I described the way the Xhaler is built to an Electrical Engineer he basically said that it would work if the cap was made from a semi-conductive material, which I believe delrin becomes when placed under a current. (Look here: ScienceDirect - Polymer : The low frequency dielectric relaxation of polyoxymethylene (Delrin) using a direct current technique)

Do you not agree that it is possible for the cap to work basically as a voltage "leak" that only operates when placed under load--like a pipe with a hole that only opens when enough pressure is applied? Screwing and unscrewing the cap operates as a physical "switch" for this effect, and that is exactly what is demonstrated in the video.

It evades me why you would reference an article that discus’s how much Delrin heats up when it’s individual atoms are deformed by an electrical field. This is important in the construction of capacitors as to determining the thickness the Delrin should be when used as the insulating material between the conductive layers, but has no importance in this issue. We are not worried about the Delrin melting in this case. Yes all atoms heat up when deformed by an electrical field, normal thing to happen as electrical charges are what hold atoms together.

Perhaps we could try this poll again and try to stay on topic. I have been reading threads all day trying to find a great 5-6 volt Mod and thought I had finally arrived at the right place to help me make a decision. Through my reading I found that there are many others in the same boat.

Just as people are opening up, all of a sudden it the thread gets hijacked as it so often does and never got back on track. :(

I know nothing about voltage..but i am interested in finding a good 5v device to purchase later on down the road. My 3.7 suits me fine, but there is that tiny bit of the little "unknown guy" hammering inside my head pounding out " you need to try a 5v".

So..can we please get some of these device owners to speak out in here...tell us what you think of whatever 5v device you currently own.

Thanks a bunch !

Carry on....just wanted to add my interests.

Well there are only really several available.

Prodigy
GLV
Xhaler
Some privately built mods like the detonator, etc.

5v vapes much better than at 3.7 but not as hot as 6v.

It seems like the perfect place to be. Cartomizer are wonderful with 5v as are 510s and 901s.
801s are ok also but I think 510s and cartos rock with 5v.

Thanks Doots....i had a 6v device...and it was way too harsh, so i do eventually want to try a 5.v. As it looks, I'm leaning towards the Xhaler or Prodigy and was just wandering how the owners of all these devices likes and dislikes.

So far for me...The Juice Box is the bomb...but I do also carry around my Lil Chuck which is designated for Hot cinnamon use only on a cartomizer.

Appreciate your response..I guess I'll just check back here and there later on to see what the current owners of all of these think.

Thanks A bunch doots

Enjoy The Vape

The nicostick can be 5v as well I think. It doesn't seem to be too difficult to build one and seems to get a lot of positive comments.

Thanks Elendil...

but...did you happen to notice my name ? ( I promise i didnt mean this as a rude thing and i know you posted this for this thread and not me personally! I just couldnt resist...it's an evil twisted side i have, yanno)

It is a good idea...but definately someone else would have to build it for me...I'd have a bloody mess !

Love your avitar Elendil !

Well. the Prodigy was the clear winner, but apparently they don't make it anymore.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like neither the Prodigy V2 or the Protege run @ 5v.

:(

Protege is has always and is supposed to run at 3.7V that's why it's different than the Prodigy (because it's smaller). The V2 got revamped to just be a bit smaller than the V1 but it runs at 5V. There's an entire discussion about the revamped version in the Puresmoker forum.
