So I've been using an mvp pro (up to 60watts) with a sub ohm Atlantis tank. I'm wanting to get an rda but don't know where to begin. I know about them but I'm not familiar with battery safety etc.

My BIG QUESTION is:
Can I buy an RDA(based on your recommendations of course) and put pre built coils on it and wick them and be good to go? Or is there more to it than that? I want to be safe and would prefer to not get hurt. Lol

If that is ok to do what affordable beginners rda do you recommend. I would like a decent juice well and nice air flow.

1: with an rda you normally buy a roll of wire and wrap your own coil; or a few small rolls of wire so you can experiment with different wire sizes.
nowadays there are coil jigs you can pick up to make coil wrapping easier if you find it's too much dexterity fingerwork and needing sharp eyes.

2: an rda is a very simple thing, so basically they are not expensive; but they are usually make of steel, so they are not as cheap as a plastic clearomizer.

3: for your first coils, get some 30 gauge and 28 gauge kanthal; try single coil first and stay above 1 ohm.

Not overwhelmed lol I ordered two clones because obviously they were cheaper. My next question: are clones generally speaking of at least decent quality??
It depends. If you got good clones, they could be great. Make sure you wash them before you build anything.

It depends on the clone. If you're buying a clone from fasttech, read the reviews and discussions. Those guys live for clones and meticulously pick apart every single little detail. They're pretty awesome. If you're buying it elsewhere..... read reviews if they have em. If they don't, I'd definitely consider buying a "namebrand" clone. Ehpro, Tobeco and infinite seem to do pretty good work. I bought my Derringer off of

Both the drip tip and derringer are on that page. I'm super impressed with the quality of both, and shipping was way faster than fasttech.

I bought my (Tobeco) Velocity clone to try before I buy an authentic.
It had sterling reviews so I got it here - Velocity RDA by Tobeco
It's 2 post, 4 hole so just as easy to build a dual coil as a single coil on a different one.
I'm enjoying it at .35Ω using 24g at 85W. It got spitty over 90 but even 95W was tolerable.
My first build was .45Ω using 26W and was excellent at 50W and still doable at 75W

Excellent until they release another batch of authentics. No regrets for $17 and change

Which ones and where did you order from? A lot of clones can be great quality, the real brand name RDA's can get too expensive..

Velocity clone is an awesome RDA, very easy to build on and around 20$ @ eciggity.com. Other than that buy wire from lightningvapes.com 4$ a roll, store by me charges 20$ a roll. Also buying organic japanese cotton online is the way to go they overcharge in stores

You don't really need an ohm reader, since your's reads it and doesn't sound like your trying to do anything crazy.

Check out coil jigs, makes making your coils very easy and perfect everytime. A1 Kanthal 28 guage would be ideal wire for .5 coils, not to stiff to work with.

If you need any help or questions let me know!

As others have mentioned, the Velocity RDA (by Tobeco) is an excellent atty, $20 dollars most places, $16 at the site I linked. I have 2 of the Tobeco clones and they are perfect. The Velocity may seem a little intimidating to someone new to RDA's, but it is actually very versatile, and while not designed for single coil airflow, it can do single coil just fine. Very easy to build on, deep juice well and infinite airflow options. You will need organic cotton, this is what I use, it should last you...well...just about forever and costs $6.
