Best build for mixture of flavor and clouds?

I know you normally give up some of one for improvement on the other, but what kind of build would be that "sweet spot" and give me the best of both worlds? I had a Dark Horse on my 100w unregulated box built to 0.3 ohms and didn't enjoy it at all. 6 wraps and dual coil, can't remember what gauge wire though. Much less flavor than my Atlantis tank and very burnt tasting.

So what kind of build would you guys recommend for what I'm looking? I like the hit I get from my tank, mostly just looking to get more flavor along with bigger, thicker clouds and a not-so-harsh hit.

Hi @Stanley1994 and welcome to ECF.

Here's a bump for an answer.

Happy vaping!

I absolutely love my Dark Horse. I build mine with dual coils for a .7 ohm build on my king v2 mech. I get great clouds and great flavor with it. What do you use for wick? Whats the ID of your coils?

Other than that, ive heard good things about the Troll, Plume Veil (though I've heard its not a great cloud chasing atty), the mutation x. And then there are the so called competition attys like the GA Rampage and the El Cabron to name a couple.

My suggestion is to keep tinkering with the Dark Horse to find the optimal build for it before throwing money at more equipment.

+1 to @Darth Omerta. You don't need more gear, you need a better build for the Dark Horse. I think you'll find your spot between .5 and 1.0. Try some clapton wire, or twisted, to increase surface area. What wick are you using? Try some rayon, maybe. Honestly, if you want both, I think a high powered regulated box would make it a lot easier. You could maximize coil wire surface area without worrying too much about the heated mass, since you'd have power. But you could crank down the watts to avoid juice burn as the (necessarily) lowered resistance of a complex coil build wouldn't control power as it does on an unregulated. Finally, I'm getting good results with TC.

He is right with the claptons. If it taste burnt have you looked at your wick? bad wicking with harsh angles does that (happens in my kennedy rda all the time) and the wick will be a darker brown on one side

0.7 sounds about right. What was your exact build to get a good flavor/cloud mix as far as wire gauge, coils, wraps etc? And does the wattage of your mod effect this because mine is a 100w regulated and I figured this contributed to the temperature of the hit as well.

First I should not that I use mechs exclusively so I cant help you with wattage as mine tends to sag a bit with the battery. That said:
28AWG kanthal (.32mm)
11/10 wraps on a 1/16 drillbit for an ID of 1.58 (I like long coils, for alot of surface area But it can be done with larger ID)
very short legs on the coils, I like them close to the post for better airflow
Organic cotton for wick.

according to steam engine I vape in the vacinity of 25w With my vtc4s in the king v2 mech I use. If I was regulated I would probably hit around 35w (im guessing)

Appreciate it man sounds pretty close to what I'm looking for. I've been looking into getting a 40w unregulated box so I'll definitely have to try that build out

24 gauge, dual coils, 8 wraps, 3.5 inner diameter. 60 watts is my sweet spot, but I've had it up to 90 with no issues (except using lots of juice...lol.)
Lol yeah that has a lot to do with me wanting to buy a DNA 40 and experiment with it. My 100w regulated would burn through juice like no tomorrow and with my closest vape shop being 30 mins away I'd like for a bottle to last me at least a decent amount of time without having to order some.
