Any 510 cartomizer will do. The higher the ohms, the more voltage settings you can select. Boge and Smok are good ones to consider. I use both in my cartotanks.

Cartotanks are also great! You get much better taste from them then you would with clearos in my opinion. As you stated, there is no cleaning or dry burning cartos, so maintenance does go down. However, a carto by itself tends to die much faster then when it is in a tank. Basically, you take a stainless steel carto, punch small holes into the bottom, fill/prime the carto (this is very important!) and put it into a glass tank that is held on to the carto by o-rings. Fill the tank and top it off with a drip tip. The liquid in the tank continually feeds the carto, so it lasts much longer then any coil would, or a carto by itself. The only maintenance required would be topping off the tank until the carto dies. You'll have plenty of warning when a carto is going. They usually die a slow death, and as a result I've never been stuck with a dead topper unexpectedly.

My preferred carto tanks come from IBTanked. I found that they offer the best combination of quality and price around. You can find cheaper tanks, but they don't fit as well on to the cartos, and the cartos have a tendency to slip out of the tank, making quite a mess. However, that can often be solved with a flanged Smok carto and a drip tip with a wide base, like a ming shaped one for example. Flanges on the bottom of the carto keep the tank from slipping down and the drip tip keeps it from slipping up. With high quality tanks though, this is hardly ever a concern and you can use whatever drip tip or carto you like. Another good one to try is Phiniac, but those are a bit pricier, and do not come with metal end caps like IBTanked tanks do. They offer black Delrin (plastic) caps. They do offer more customization however. Last, I recommend Cirrus Vape tanks. These are great quality tanks, but the priciest at around $60 or $70. I would check out Ultramist for those, as they have had them on sale for almost half the price. These tanks are beautiful, but finding replacement o-rings may be a challenge in the future. Still, those are high quality o-rings and I haven't had to replace any in several months now.

Edited to add: You can purchase laser cut, prepunched cartos for your tanks if you do not want to punch holes. IBTanked sells Smok single coil, prepunched cartos with flanges, and I use these the most. They're easier to prime in my opinion then Boge cartos, and I found that they last longer. Boge tastes better, but only for a couple of days, so I'd rather have a longer lasting carto. If you want prepunched Boge cartos, Surevapes had multibox sales of them. They also have multibox deals on black Boge cartos that aren't punched to use by themselves. Those come with a free drip tip!

Cartotanks definitely interest me, but I think I want to go back to straight cartomizers at the moment.

Basically your choices will be between Boge, Ikenvape, and Smoktech as the major manufacturers of cartomizers. Your luck with unbranded cartos will be very hit or miss, probably more miss than hit. Even with the above major brands, you'll get a bum carto or even a batch of bum cartos. A reputable dealer will replace bum cartos.

Basically the length (standard or XL) and the ohm rating of the coil (low resistance vs standard resistance).

Length will determine the amount of liquid capacity (1.0 ml vs 1.5 ml). Resistance is personal preference, but a higher resistance will allow a larger selection of voltages to be used in a regulated mod like the MVP.

Lower ohm = warmer vapor. Higher ohm = cooler vapor.

I've heard about the pin in the MVP v2 but not in the carto. Is there a "pin" in the bottom of the cartos?

I'm planning on getting the MVP v2 for my husband - despite the pin problem with various toppers or the
bottom needing a bit of tweaking to allow it to stand without a wobble. I'm hoping the better, more
satisfying gear will finally be enough for him to make the transition from cigarettes to vaping.

We have various types of toppers (we'll never get into dripping or building).
Will be using carto with tank. This is what we both like the most.
We're using the ikenvape nitro cartos and I will be ordering him an ibtanked tank to pair with the MVP v2.

I have doubts about the 510 adaptor that comes with the MVP & haven't figured out which one to
purchase.
