I'm totally new to ECigs but have read a great deal about them.

I am really dying to find an ecig as good as the 510 (I've read here it is the best) that looks like an actual cigarette with a normal amber/red LED. Is there any combination/Build Your Own that I can put together? I really don't want to draw attention and just want to blend in with everybody else so I don't get swarmed by people asking me questions about the thing and getting strange looks every time I go out for some drinks.

As long as you have an LED you won't avoid the above. And you'll never find one in that size that performs like a 510. Best to get a white 510 with a 'cork' cart (901 carts) and no LED or a red or orange LED and find a way to tone it down with tape :)

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. I still want to stick with the 510 since it has such high ratings here. Thank you!

If you can, please explain to me exactly what makes the 510 so great? Is it the atomizer and/or the battery?

I second the 510, to me it has the best throat hit, which was big for me to get off the analogs. Also, I think no matter what people might wonder what it is but who cares at least you will smell better than them. GL and Welcome!!! ps. cignot.com has 510s for 35 bucks and great reviews, you might want to check them out.

You can get a 510 in white with an orange LED. Many places sell them:
myPVshop.com Electronic Cigarettes - Joye510 Electronic Cigarette Battery, White

If you use the white atty & cart, it'll look just like a Marlborough Light 100:

It's the atomizer and was the fact that it was the only viable manual battery. Most of the others were retrofited from autos and they had stuck buttons, buttons falling off, and weren't 'sealed' so no heavy dripping. The downside is that the regular 510 batt is 150mAh vs. 180mAh on the auto 901 so you got an extra 1/2 hour in charging - if that. But it's the main objection that everyone that doesn't have a 510 complains about. lol - just joking... kinda.

The resistance on the atty is lower than most and it runs hotter and that makes for more vapor and more flavor in some flavors - less in others but again, that's what those without a 510 complain about - 'kills flavor' - just joking - kinda. So now you know the drill. The reason why it's so popular has very good reality behind those votes many from people that have had other ecigs and ended up with a 510. Plus it's the best atty for a mod too, says the majority in the poll on mods.

That said, there isn't an ecig in existence, that hasn't gotten someone to stop smoking and when that happens the person tends to make that a special ecig. Totally understandable. One of the more recent developments for all but the most keen modders is that there are adapters available for now, almost all models to where you can experience the great flavor of apple or peach of the 801 and 901 attys on a 510 system. You can put a cartomizer on a 510 a vape without refills for a few hours or more, ymmv. And depending somewhat on resistance and power - you can experience the 510 attys on other ecigs.

I personally find I love using 808 cartomizers on a 510 battery with the adapter. It seems to heat up quicker. I seem to get more throat hit and vapor this way. Albeit the battery dies quicker but with a pcc who cares It's always charged, or leave the carto on the 510 batt and have 2nd batt plugged into pcc.

You will notice everything is a preference. The Minifogger wasn't too bad. Very short, lots of vapor. But LOTS of dripping. Just really like my 808 cartos so much. The stock battery isn't bad at all. Just like 510 batt on cartos. Seems to be the best combo FOR ME...

I'd like to through in my vote for the m40x series- personally I prefer the 402 since it's a slightly smaller battery than the 401, and it just feels better in my hand. Total length is 96mm on the 402, actually less than a 100 ;)

You might also consider the m702 pcc- the e-cig it comes with is almost identical to the m402 (except the threads on the atomizer and battery have been reversed), and uses the same cartridges as the m40x series. I think the m702 comes with 5 black carts, and your choice of black or white batteries- but again, you can buy a couple of cheap packs of tan carts and order the white battery version if that's to your liking.
Also you'll have the Portable Charging Case to boot, so you can recharge your batts on the go (which is very useful if you're out for a night on the town, believe me). The pcc is approximately the same size as a pack of cigarettes, right down the same flip top you'd be used to.

The m402 also has a similar charging case available elsewhere, but I've no experience with it.

One of the 'things' about a cig-lookalike is that peops might mistake them for a new version of those old one-hitters. ya know? the other reason i personally wouldn't want one is because i'm going to be working on vaping in places where i couldn't smoke before (i.e. cig ban in restaurants as of dec. 1 in va)... and it's just less credible when i'm holding something that looks like a cig.
