I'm currently a smoker and use it as my pain medication. Yesterday while searching for health benefits of nicotine I found this forum and a thread about this for people with MS. Unfortunately, the thread about vaping and MS is closed. Hoping that those who participated in this discussion can advise me on which brand you recommend for someone with MS.
thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum @beegolden. Glad to have you here!:)

I too have MS (Primary Progressive) but nicotine (& vaping) does nothing for my pain and spasticity. But neither do any of the other drugs approved for MS (Interferon/Copaxone/IV Infussions) regarding treating/slowing down the progression. Have had it for 9 years (I'm 58).

Do you have Relapsing Remitting or some other version of MS?

Thanks Susan! here's the link to the closed thread Multiple Sclerosis and effects of nicotine? | E-Cigarette Forum

Still waiting on Dx - may end up being Myasthenia Gravis and not MS

Tagging @DingerCPA & @Katmar re: MS & Vaping. They can give an update on how they/their SO is doing regarding vaping & nicotine.

As far as what type of devise you should get to vape with, having MS or not having MS will make no difference regarding what you should purchase.

I often recommend (as many others do) an iStick 30 watt (battery) with an Aspire Mini Nautillus or eLeaf GS Air M (tank).

The 30 Watt iStick
Aspire Nautilus Mini
eLeaf GS Air M

    Hi @beegolden,

I have MS. Relapse remitting. Neither vaping or smoking helped me, either. Didn't hurt, just didn't help. And like Susan, no success with the MS drugs, but I am still kicking and moving forward. Susan's suggestion regarding devices is the best, imo.. I wish you well.....and welcome to the forum...:)

Hi @beegolden. My Partner has Relapsing Remitting MS (Dx 3 yrs ago - just after she'd turned 43.) She was never a smoker, and only dabbles with vaping. I'd hoped she'd consider light levels of nicotine, as I've read a number of articles regarding the positive cognitive effects from light levels of nic. None of the MS drugs has benefited her either. The only things that seem to help are occasional steroid infusions and some pain medications.

As far as devices, I'm also going to second the suggestion of the iStick 30 and a Nautilus/Nauti Mini. Moderately inexpensive and very easy to use. Beyond that, like anyone else who is transitioning from smoking to vaping, it's "find your nic level and pick your flavors" - both are very subjective and personal :)

Best wishes to you (and @Susan~S and @Katmar) It's kind of a sucky road to travel. I just wish there was something more that can be done.

Hi and welcome to the board. I know nothing about MS, or whether or what kind of vape gear might be helpful, but I do agree the iStick/Nauti combo you have been recommended is good gear. Good luck and welcome; we're glad you made it here and we'll be happy to try to help if we can think of anything to do.

There is SO much research going on with MS. The vast majority of donations go directly to research. The MS Society is one of the highest rated because of this. I may not see the cure in my lifetime, but, then again, they have come so far, I may. Thank you for your good wishes. There are suckier ones, though. :)

@Katmar - oh yes. The MS Society is a good one. We've participated in a couple of the regional Walks. Not even because of what Arlene is going through, but I've met more and more people who have MS. Everyone is different. To look at a couple of our friends, you'd never have a clue. Their "bad days" are when they are extremely fatigued. Arlene's "bad days" often mean she can't get out of bed, can't walk down the hall, can't get all her words spit out coherently :( She'll start a conversation, and it's almost verbatim what we talked about the night before, but she doesn't remember that.... That's why I was hoping she'd try a bit of nic in her juices, but she does NOT like the taste (and can instantly tell that I have nic in my flavors o_O)

    We'll keep fighting, that's for sure :)

Some friends joined us for the Walk last year, and I managed to snag our Mayor to get a pic with us :)

    hi Beegolden,

While I respect what Susan has said, having used a mini nautilus tank, I don't suggest that tank for anyone who has trouble with their hands. It can at times be very difficult to take apart to fill.

Depending on the problems you have, it may not be an issue for you, but I know my mother (who had MS) would have never been able to fill the tank on her own.

I will say the subtank is much easier to take apart, and has the 1.2ohm heads so you don't have to subohm on it.

I do agree with the istick 30 watt tho. While I personally don't care for it, it is one of the few mods you can easily lock the wattage on once set, so if you get shaky you won't hit a wrong button and change it. It is also light, easy to use and can be used with any of the tanks you might decide to use.

Just to add. The istick case can be rather slick, especially when new. The silicone cases are not expensive and improve the grip significantly.

Consider getting 2 setups. When one is near empty a friend or family member could take care of the refilling and charging. All you would need to do is rotate them as needed.

    Wishing you all the best.

I'm such a newbie, that all the terminology is 'greek to me' haha I'll keep exploring and learning. I'm guessing that ecigs are not the same as vaping ...

thanks @sisu Great suggestion! Do they not make prefilled tanks?

I know some people don't like to admit this, but all mods are still e-cigs (just try to use a mod anywhere they say you can't use an e-cig and see where that gets you).

E-cigs is just the device, vaping is the action of using them.

Yes, I finally figured this out ;) I don't get out much and usually don't smoke when I do, so being told I can't use a mod or ecig isn't a problem. Just wanted to check out the alternatives for nicotine delivery. I may just stick the real thing ;)
