Hello everyone, this is my first post. I've actually joined this community to research the whole e cig thing. My husband wants to make the change from analogs to e cigs. I have no idea what to buy for him. i tried to read a thread about what to use for a first timer, and it was like reading another language.
All I need is a brand name and for the e cig to be easy to use and similar as the regular cig experience. and of course a website to buy from. Hopefully this isn't a total repetitive thread topic( which i'm sure it is.) any info (in newb terms please) would be helpful.
Thanks in advance, i'm going to browse the site now.

I don't know that there's any way to avoid learning some of the lingo. But you'll get used to it.

By far, the easiest thing to use is a 2 piece with an automatic battery. The 2 pieces are the battery and cartomizer. The cartomizer is an atomizer and cartridge combined into a single unit. An automatic battery senses when you're drawing on the e-cig, and sends power to the atomizer. With a manual battery, you have to push a button when you draw on it. I like manual batteries better, because on occasion the automatic switches can malfunction. Yeah, the manual switches can too, but I believe it's less common. In theory, batteries should last longer with a manual switch.

Also read through "The Wonderful World of Vaping" series in the The ECF Library - E-Cigarette Forum

Even though the battery life isn't too great, I still like the Joye 510 kits, and Cignot has a great reputation. That's a 3 piece e-cig, meaning the battery, atomizer, and cartridge are seperate. One advantage to that is that it's extremely easy to refill the cartridges. With the 510, you can switch to using cartomizers if you wish.

Lots of people like Vapor King e-cigs for a 2 piece system.

As far as being as similar as possible to a smoking experience, well, YMMV on that regard, and I do think that's helpful for quitting the cigarettes, but in the long run, I think you'll be better off learning to appreciate vaping for what it is, which is better, in so many ways, than smoking. I smoked for 30 years. I don't now. I still use tobacco flavored juices. But I use a variety of flavors, and finding new ones that you especially like is part of the fun.

If he smokes a pack or more a day I would say get a RIVA it is like the ego with a longer lasting battery and also cheaper. It gives the warm inhale like a real cig. I love mine sooo much. They have them at:

I appreciate all the replys. I've been on this website and others for the last 3 hours. I've come to the conclusion that I'll buy a KR808d-1 starter kit, i think convenience is key here. I'm just having a hard time finding the menthol cartomizers being sold at the same place as the starter kit, sigh... also, i'm noticing that alot of the starter kits come with a manual batteries as opposed to automatic. Should I purchase the automatic battery in addition to the manual? what is the difference. So many questions, another one being, should I be concerned that they'll ban e ciggs? I just got taken by threefeatherstobacco for 110. a couple weeks ago due to their legal issues, so i'm leary of starting another web based smoking deal.

I just bought the T-rex which is the same as the eGo. Its battery lasts all day long and for a first time buyer I couldnt really be more pleased with a product. Now I do not have anything to compare it to as this is my first e-cig but if your husband likes big hits and "smokey" drags than I would go for the eGo/T-rex (It has many names).

Automatic E-cigs sense when you suck on it and it starts the atomizer.

Manual e-cigs dont start until you push the button, which in my case I like better.

Automatics have been known to stick and run your battery dead. can also burn up atomizers.

I have no idea what to buy for him. i tried to read a thread about what to use for a first timer, and it was like reading another language.

Wtchmel, some acronyms and abbreviations will have a little green line under them, such as PV and PCC. <---- Hover your cursor over those acronyms, and it will tell you what they stand for. That can be helpful to us newbies.

The most popular e-cigs for beginners seem to be the kr808 and the Joye 510. The batteries only last a couple of hours, so your husband will constantly be charging batteries. My first e-cig was a Joye eGo, which is exactly the same as a Joye 510, except it has a much larger battery (it's therefore not shaped like a real cigarette) that lasts about 8 hours between charges.

To get started, your husband will need: 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, 1 battery charger, 1 AC (wall) adaptor (to plug the charger into the wall outlet), at least 5 cartridges, and about 25 milliliters (mL) of e-liquid to refill the cartridges when they go dry. Many vendors sell all of this as a kit, and some occasionally have sales.

I was a 2 pack/day smoker for nearly 30 years, and e-liquid (juice) with a nicotine concentration of 24 milligrams (mg) works well for me. Consider getting one 25 mL bottle of juice that's tobacco-flavored, as well as small samples of juices of different flavors. There is no reason that e-cigs need to taste as bad as cigarettes, and he might find a flavor that he really likes.

It's very likely that your husband will have technical problems in the early going. Don't let him despair; he can come here and get advice from very friendly and knowledgeable people who have been through the same difficulties.

Good Luck!
