Looked a provari, would just feel weird smoking it. Overall best, smoking V2 right now. Price doesn't matter. If you could rate smoke, battery, flavor, adjust ability (cartridge, make yer own flavors), and whatever else you think is important. Its gonna be a while because I gotta save up, so please keep me updated. Thanks for being willing to help the newbie. ;-)

overall best: provari or Darwin.

best that looks like a real cig: the smokeless image volt.

best midrange option: eGo twist, spinner, or KGO.

For something resembling a cig, get a Smokeless Image Volt. It has great vapor production, above average battery life for the size, and is very dependable. They also have some good options for upgrading once you get started. They have great clearomizers if you want to use different juices, and the X2 (basically an 808 Ego) if you want to upgrade to a bigger battery. The price for starter kits is on par with other minis, and their prefilled cartos are cheaper than a lot of others (and some of the flavors are great).

I thought the same thing too when I first started vaping. I ended up going with a Ego and then Kgo. Personally an ecig lookalike would not have been enough for me to quit smoking. I needed more and the Ego was perfect to start with but quickly realized that bigger wasn't that uncomfortable and I know have a Provari and a few others of like size. You get use to them quick. Maybe try an Ego twist. They aren't as big as a Provari but are muck more satisfying than a little ecig sized PV.

Wonder if all of us started with a look alike - I did too. Started with Blu disposables then Joy rechargeable (didnt even buy cartos - was useless), next was prosmoke - which was ok - then to KGO 1100 mah, then YJ VV - and now have a VV pass through coming.....guess we all needed that look alike to kick the habit - they should be the cheapest - but sadly not...

The Volt is IMHO, the best available cig-sized device but doubt that it will be enough of a boost over your current V2's if your substantially dissatisfied with them. In fact, the V2 and the Volt are both KR808D-1 "mini" devices (you could interchange batteries and cartomizers between them).
If you really wish to stay with a cig-a-like, try the Volt by getting a "Volt Pack Kit" or "Volt - Basic starter kit". If you like them, you can get more batts etc. and use the stuff you got in the pack/starter kit with them.
If you think you might be open to a slightly larger system, I have to agree with the others here and vote for the eGo Twist or Vision Spinner. The smaller 650mAh eGo twist battery is almost exactly the same size around as a AA cell (~ 0.56") and about 3.9" long, not including cartomizer (the "filter" part). The cartomizers would be very similar to those used on the V2 except they would be a 510 thread. The eGo also works with any other 510 atomizing devices and, of course, eGo-style atomizing devices.

I like my DSE 901s from AquaVapor. They last a long time (for cig-a-likes) and they produce decent vapor and flavor. The 901 and 808 are thread-compatible so you can use any carto, atty or clearo that fits an 808, and you can get 510-901 adapters to use just about any cart or atty on the market with a 901 battery.

I've had my 901s for a month and vape them almost every day. One battery will last me half the day if I'm vaping normally (on my commute, on lunch break, sneaking a "stealth vape" or two), and they recharge quickly (under an hour, if plugged into the wall, longer if on USB on my computer).

I prefer the 901 attys and cartos to 510s. I think they are smoother, more flavorful and produce better vapor. There ARE 510 cartos and attys that perform VERY well (like the HH357) but they are expensive and hard to get.

Most of my "at home vaping" is done on a AcryliMax VV/VW mod. But when I'm out and about, I usually carry a few 901s in my pocket because they are easier to carry around, and I can carry 2 or 3 different flavors and switch them around easily if I want. Plus they are a lot more "stealthy" if I don't feel like fielding questions about my big mod, like if I'm on a focused shopping mission or in a hurry or something...

I haven't tried the Volt, but everyone seems to think it's the bomb. I may have to look into their batteries, since they would be compatible with all the 901-threaded stuff I already have.

One question: Is the Volt auto-battery sealed?

Hey Russninja, welcome to the ECF! There are so many variables, but just to answer one part of your question. The best ecig look-alike is the brand new Joye eRoll. Check it out.

Here's yet another vote for the Volt. This is so superficial but... one of my favorite parts of purchasing it was picking out the colors. If I'm gonna be holding this thing and putting it near my mouth all the time, I want it to be pretty! Mine's a silver battery with the classic orange end. Something about that orange tip lighting up... I swear it's a big part of vaping, for me.

I have been "analog" free now for 18 days. I was not a heavy smoker but wanted a cigarette looking vape. I am a woman and got suckered into buying the vapor Couture kit because it is super slim and pretty, which it is. The second I got it and vaped I never smoked again. Since then I bought a Riva 510-t kit. I think I will be one of those that just likes the smaller size, cigarette looking like ecigs though. Like you, I am looking for the same as you are and thinking the eroll might be a good choice. I love the Vapor Couture a bunch but you have to buy prefilled carts and honestly they don't have any flavors I like enough and they are expensive. I would like to stick with the 510 since I do like my Riva but would like a smaller unit. Seems we are the minority in wanted smaller vs. these giant mods. HAHA. Honestly, as much as the mods work and get great vapes for long periods of time, I keep thinking that I would look like I am taking rips of a .... or something. hehe! Let us know what you get and how it works, okay! :)

I started with the Volt 3 months ago and have no plans to change. I "upgraded" to their bigger X2 battery...but the cig sized 78mm is still my main device. I don't think "everyone" eventually gives up cig sized. I was a 3 pad 40 year smoker, and the Volt with standard re-fillable cartos is great for me. After all of those years with a cig in my hand, it just feels natural. Also, it's just easier to carry in my pocket and hold in the car when I'm out and about. That's just my 2 cents.

I am very new to this but think that one of the best things about e-cigs is the variety. There is not one single one that works for everyone but seems like enough out there so that most can find something that works for them.

Glad you found something that works for you as that is the most important thing.

Being new as well, the only downside is that it's almost intimidating trying to decide what to start out with!
