Hi all. I was hoping to get into a mechanical mod soon, but which one is best for someone who is looking at buying their very first one? I'm wanting to get into something more customizable. My protank and ego twist just aren't doing it for me anymore. I want to be able to adjust the amount of vapor, the amount of airflow, the ohms of the coil, etc. So is there a sort of starter kit that comes with what you need, and perhaps a few variations of the commonly interchanged parts? If not, how are you ever supposed to find what you like without spending too much money?

Are you interested in a clone or the real deal?

The smok Magneto has some of the best reviews of any clone I have seen. And the button is made with 2 magnets instead of a spring so the spring can't fail.

It also has room for a kick if you use an 18500 battery. At least then you have some sort of safety mech.

Check out baditudes blog on MODS and battery safety before you purchase anything. Using a mech with the wrong composition battery can be dangerous to you or anyone around you.

With a mech YOU are the safety mechanism!

When it comes to safety I have my batteries picked out already. They're some of the highest amp draw 18650's that you can get. I don't vape for nicotine anymore, just for the sheer pleasure of vaping. So I'm not really interested in the throat hit. I usually use a 4mg or just a zero mg. So here's my main questions.

1. But how exactly can I use a bottom fed tank with an atomizer, and still be able to install the exact coils that I want? I do not want to use a drip tip or that type of tank, if I can avoid it. I still want my mod to be able to lay sideways without all the fluid going everywhere.

2. What exactly is the best way to increase the amount of vapor inhaled, with a mechanical mod? I'm looking to double, but have the option to triple the amount of vapor per hit. It seems to me that it would be with bigger air holes, and lower ohm coils. Maybe a 1.5ohm or a 1.2 ohm.

3. I'm also looking to increase the flavor, and I've heard that's doable with mechanical mods. Something about modding lets you increase flavor in a way that the OEM stuff just doesn't have the options for.

4. I could go for a clone, if its cheaper and the quality is comparable. Is this typically the case?

which batteries are you getting? ('im looking to get some safe ones as well)

Amazon.com: 4pcs Panasonic CGR18650CH 3.6 Volt Li-ion Battery 2250 mAh: Everything Else

Rated for high amp draw, 10 amps IIRC. Should be plenty for vaping purposes. Maybe someone else here can chime in if there are some better ones out there. I got them from Lordy's youtube video.

With a mech you're going to have to go lower ohms for more vapor. Larger airholes will also make more vapor but then you start trading off flavor. Multiple coils should also increase your vapor production. There's a balance that you're going to have to figure out just by using to find what you want.

Thanks for the reply. Some say that certain combos actually yield more flavor than the standard OEM stuff. Any truth to that? Is it possible to actually increase the flavor?

Does this mean that with other types, (besides a mech) that there are other ways to get more vapor?

Flavor will depend on which delivery device you choose and how you set it up.
Dripping is a great way to get better flavor.
Some say carto's also produce great flavor.
While others will swear by the KFL.

Many Many Many ways to get great flavor, Research and experiment!

Never heard of a KFL. What is it?

a quick inquary on these batts and the 10 amp discharge rate it maybe ok in a mech with standard resistance specs but anything sub ohm could be real dangerous these have a 30a discharge rate for about the same price Amazon.com: (2 Pieces) 30A Sony 18650 Battery 1600mAh 3.7V High Drain US18650VTC3: Cell Phones & Accessories

Another questions: I know someone here said that you can use tanks with a mechanical mod, but I'm still not sure I understand entirely. So:

1. How can you get a lower Ohm coil with a pre-made tank? Say I want to use the kanger protank or any of the rest of the OEM tanks. Their atomizers come with a 1.8 ohm coil, and that's all you get the choice of. If I want to customize and go with say a 1.4 ohm coil, or even a 1.0 ohm coil, how can I do that?

2. The coils on a mechanical look like they're just down in there with the cotton wicks. How can I use a tank if that's where the coils are located? It seems to me that would be a dripper, and not a tank. Thus, when you run out of liquid on your cotton wicks, you just pour more down the drip tip and it will go down there and soak the cotton. Or maybe you have to take it all apart and soak the cotton directly? Either way that wouldn't be a tank setup. I want to be able to keep 1.5ml-2 ml in some kind of reservoir, that won't spill of the mod lays on its side.

bump on the magneto, you want as many safety features as possible for over discharge, if you really wanna start subohming, i'd suggest a sigelei mech mod and a UD RDA or Genny Clone, I use the AGI or AGA T3.

I would not recommend the AGA T3 for a beginner.. It is a pain in the ... to build. Ive tried cotton, cotton candle wick, silica, ekowool, SS mesh, ceramic, and SS cable with ekowool. Micro coil, regular coil still cant get it to work. Its retired in my bone yard right now and frustrating because it was almost $50!

Magneto or nemesis clone would be a good starter mech... if you want a rebuildable dripper the trident is perfect since you can do single or dual coil and has adjustable airflow. Otherwise for a rebuildable tank setup the fogger or rocket would be a good place to start.

Went ahead and took your advice and got the Nemesis Clone. Everyone says its very hard to tell its even a clone, my guess would be that it probably isn't. Just the company selling it as a clone to bring in a little more money. Now I just need a deck, and some kind of tank. That sound about right? Or am I leaving anything out?
