I'm going to get started building my own coils for my PT2 and eventually a KFL+ but wasn't sure the best place to get samples of Kanthal 28g and 30g to test out. I thought I saw a Riptrippers Youtube video where he recommended kidneypuncher.com to buy the samples. Which websites do you buy Kanthal from in bulk (or samples)?

I just shop the prices on Amazon and go with whoever is lowest on cost + shipping. Last I ordered was a 100' roll of 28ga for $7 and 100' roll of 30ga for $5 and change plus a couple of bucks for shipping.

You do have to look for deals where you can buy it all from the same vendor under the same shipping cost. I screwed up last time and didn't notice that my $2.25 package of 100 organic cotton balls ended up costing me $4 extra in shipping!

~$7 for 100' of Kanthal from Lightning Vapes on Amazon.
Certainly waaay more than sample sized, but at that price it seems reasonable enough to just order them.
You could make use of both if you wanted to.

I just ordered 50' of 30ga from Lightning, for $3.49.

Lightning also sells silica wick of various kinds, but I'm kinda lost; I need to get some silica wick for my kanger coils, but I know nothing about this; I've been replacing the silica flavor wick, after dry burning, with P&C cotton yarn, but I hate the dry-hit taste i keep getting, so I've been using my new replacement coils instead of the old ones that now have cotton flavor wicks. Can anyone help me figure out what width to get, for these tiny coils? They offer 1mm, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3mm, but I have no earthly idea which is right.

Thx

When I was rebuilding protanks I'd use 2mm for the coil wick and 2 strands of 1 mm for the flavor wicks. People do it various ways though. You can always double up wick, or pull strands apart also to get the diameter you need to fine tune gurgling or leaking issues.

Ok, thanks! I wasn't sure if it would work the same as with cotton, where you could double it up if needed. I'll just order the 1mm for now; the wire should be delivered today, but I'm not sure I'm entirely ready for this rebuilding thing, especially since I think I'm going to continue using silica as they are when you first get them. I got tired of taking "priming" hit to try and get the juice into the cotton, and if you don't, you get dry hits, and it's awful. The silica seems a lot more "newbie friendly."

Thx!!
