Well... dang. I've had a few drinks tonight and figured I'd pull trigger on a brass authentic which was in stock last week. Now it's not.

So, I ordered this one:

$15.83 SMPL Style 18650 Mechanical Mod - Brass

I'm hoping it is made by the same cloner which made my copper SMPL clone. Switch looks exactly the same as my copper. I'm not sure about the OG switches... I think there is a V1 and V2 switch? Whatever. Guess I'll find out when my money and authentic stock levels happen to coincide.

And, since I'm rocking matching Hobo clones on my other SMPL clones, I also ordered this:

$9.34 Hobo Style RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - brass + stainless steel / 22mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Pretty sure this is from the same cloner as my copper Hobo. If so, it'll be pretty good.

If you don't mind my $.02, Between those two, I would absolutely go with the $19.00 version as it has a switch that is at very least a decent copy of the first generation SMPL switch, the switch that you see in the $15.51 version is a completely different(And IMO horrible) design. One of the benefits of the SMPL is that the switch contact is one piece with the button, this allows for much better conductivity over time as they are no threads to clean where the contact would normally screw in to the button, nor does it ever need adjustment. Another benefit is the size of the contact on the switch that is a 1:1 copy, the contact area is significantly smaller on the crappy magnetic switch. I would avoid ANY SMPL clone with that magnetic switch that has the flat head slot and removable contact.

Edit: I own three authentic and two clone SMPL's, so I feel at least a teeny bit qualified to speak on the subject, haha. It's a sickness, I know.

Thank you for explaining the difference; I now sort of know what to look for. I love my mechs, but cleaning the threads on the pin and the button is one thing I do not love.

You just need to make sure your atty's 510 pin protrudes from the connector. And, no, there are no insulators in the SMPL or any of its clones (at least not mine). As long as the battery's positive pole doesn't make contact with the negative side of your atty's 510, you are all good.

Also, I only use flat tops in my SMPL clones. It is the single easiest mech to set up, IMO. Screw atty on flush (making sure 510 is protruding from connector), insert battery, screw in switch. Done.

Yep, make ABSOLUTELY sure the 510 connector is sticking out! I stuck one of my Lemo's on it a couple weeks ago & forgot that it's 510 was recessed & that ..... got hot fast! Ruined a perfectly good vtc5 battery, ugh! Learned a valuable lesson that day, lol.

I swear I would never buy another mech mod but the smpl got me intrigue so I ended up getting one, its a clone. I got a ss version with the slotted head for the switch, no snap ring. I got it paired with my tobh and I like it, definitely hits hard. I did find out that some of my drippers does not work, it will screw all the way down flat then it would just keep spinning. 510 connection doesn't have enough thread length. In the picture are both little boy rda's from 2 different manufacturers. The one on the left is a no go and the one on the right fits just fine.

Yeah lemo is slightly wider but i don't care.

I read the 510 screw of the atty needs to stick out a bit.
Have a plume veil clone dripper and thats not good to use on this smpl mod. The 510 screw seems to adjust and come down but when you press it it goes back in again. So if your 510 screw seems to be adjustable and comes out make sure it doesn't just push back in.
