Alright, I've tried regular cartomizers. I've tried dual-coil cartomizers. I've tried super giganto mega xtreme cartomizers. I've tried 510 attys, 306 attys, LR attys, debridged attys, dewicked attys. I've tried bottom-feeding carts and attys (which is where I'm staying [thank you Reo]).

Now it's time to try the tank system!

Now, from what I understand, there are two types of tanks. First, there's the type that uses an actual cartomizer stuck inside to refill. Second, there's the type that has a thin wick type thing that runs through.

I've read lots about both, and it seems like the wick-based tank systems are not exactly all the way there. Furthermore, it seems like the Royal Smokers CE3 'Smokymizers' are the thing everyone's waiting for. My questions are: Are most tank systems disposable? For the cartomizer-based tanks, are the actual carts disposable, or how long do they last?

What are your experiences?

Thankiedoodles.

You will find this thread useful, I think.

All of the MAP-style tanks use a disposable cartomizer inside. The majority of them take a CE2 of one type or another which you need to modify the tube to use. Just one example is the MAP tank - It takes a CE2-XL steel tube. You cut most of the tube off with a tubing cutter and insert. Then you fill the tank from the top with a syringe (most people syringe fill - some people pull the top off and pour). The majority (but not all) of the tank mods are like that. You keep the tank portion and replace the guts as necessary.

Glad you posted this thread, KiloWatts. I am back in the ecig game after a relapse and this is something I've heard about but not really found a response on. Seen hit or miss, love and hate, about them but on a forum this size that's to be expected. I'd love a little primer on the tank systems that have been getting the overall best feedback to give a shot.

1.) Pretty simple to mod the cartos, cut them down? I've seen you can purchase already cut ones for like five bucks, but I figured that was probably for the lazy. Five bucks sounds pretty excessive.

2.) Right now I have a ego-t 1000mah passthru. I've seen various folks mention that a mod is really the best for them. Until I get a mod (thinking about waiting for the Buzz Pro) is it even worth it on the ego?

3.) Like I mentioned earlier, are there current tank systems that seem to be the best? Or are all those in that master list pretty much equal in the love hate column?

My thoughts... Well, I own three MAP tanks and I have a syringe mod around here somewhere. Those are the only tank mods I've tried. I use a couple of the MAP tanks often, but not really as my "main vape" ever. First, I don't consider them to be very portable because they will leak of left laying on their sides. Much of my work is very physical so I carry something more durable generally.

But, I do always have a MAP tank on my desk at work for days I'm working inside at a keyboard and I have two on my desk at home. I mostly use them for sweet flavors and they are really handy. I usually put about 4.5 ml in each tank. The capacity is nice. And when I have a really good CE2 in, it's hard to beat the cloud of vapor they can create.

CE2s... These things drive me a little nuts. I have a love/hate relationship with E2s. A good one is really good. A not-so-good one is frustrating. A bad one will make you plot the murder of the inventor. - that's just how it is. A good CE2 in a tank is a great vaping experience. Billowing clouds of vapor, great flavor, and big capacity can be found. But, then some of them don't wick very well and they become a bit of a hassle to make them wick (luckily, there are hundreds of ECF posts on the topic offering lots of tips, advice and knowledge about how to overcome such a problem). A bad one... sometimes no amount of tinkering will get an E2 working right. Sometimes you can waste so much time trying to make one work that it isn't worth it.

I've learned to just toss any CE2 that doesn't perform perfectly right away. I don't mess with them any more (lots of CE2 modders and vapers are aghast reading that right now). If it doesn't wick good and vape great right away, I syringe my juice out of my tank, pull the E2, throw it away, and cut a new one. The bad ones and not-so-good ones aren't worth my time.

there you have it. I love my MAP tanks. I absolutely love them. But, there are drawbacks.

1) less than a minute with a tube cutter and you're all set. It's easy.

2) 2 of my tanks are always on eGos. With a 2.4 ohm CE2, I use a regulated genuine joye eGo batt. With a 2.8 ohm CE2, I use an unregulated eGo clone. I have a heavy ceramic cup on my desk that those sit in all the time for easy access and to never let them lay down flat.

3) there are pros and cons to each tank. And some are quite different than others. A good place to get an idea about the different tanks is the reviews section sub-forum cartomizers

My suggestion, if you like the REO than you might just like the ego-t type B. No cartomizer and for me. It brings out flavors that can't be tasted on other atties and cartos. Some juices I have only taste good on my ego-t honestly.

Also, good throat hit and vapor. Not for everybody but, it's a great system IMO. If you have an ego battery than I suggest you give it a try and get some type-b atties and tanks.

I'm very partial to 510 Clearos (with or w/o syringe-modding them)... but I have a bunch of old KR8 cartos laying around and boredom struck... (gave away my KR8 batts and somehow broke my flashlight today - but I still have my "Bic-Through" lol)

So... despite all that, I did the "slot-it-at-the-base and throw-a-sealed-syringe-around-it thing" to a steel carto... sorry, I'm not clear about what this mod is called. It was too easy with a dremmel handy.... Wow! Running a 1.2amp 5V, this thing kicks nicely! These cheapo cartos never handled this nice even when they were new or newly-prefilled! Pop the mouthpiece off and the poly is always perfectly saturated as long as there's fluid in the tank part. No more running batts at home unless I'm wandering around :D
