The best wattage is the one that suits you. Start low and increase it until you find a good level.

The pre-made OCC heads are not particularly well made, and most people struggle to get past 25 watts without getting a burnt hit. Your best bet is to use the rebuildable (RBA) section, as you can make the coils that suit you, and the wicking to best match that coil.
The V2 RBA with round holes in the sides of the barrel, if you wick it correctly is good up to 35+ watts or more. The V1 with the holes on the base requires some modification if you want big clouds. The holes are small and need to be made larger. Some people also cut slots on the barrel to increase the juice flow.
The main real restriction for the STM is the maximum air flow it is capable of.
If you search of Youtube, or here on ECF the STM has been discussed at great length particularly wicking which is the key to good performance.

Hi everyone, I was wondering what the best wattage to use on my sub tank mini would be? I am looking for a smooth hit with lots of cloud. Look at me acting like I know what I'm talking about! Any info. Is appreciated. I've been vaping for about a month. Thanks!
I don't tend to go by watts. I like to go by volts I find I get the best flavour and vapor production between 3.8-4.2 volts.

This is all entirely dependent on the unit as well (top airflow open or closed). I tend to like a warm vape.

I'd stick with wattage as it's easier to get a more accurate vape than using volts - and if you have more than one device, setting the wattage on the same level on each device will give you better performance than if you use volts. The coils are designed to work best between 15-30W on the 0.5 and 12-25W on the 1.2, so as sonicbomb says - start at the lowest wattage, and gradually work your way up until your satisfied. It isn't a contest - you might be happy with 18 watts - that's fine, however you might feel you're not getting enough flavor/vapor and so you take it to where you're happy and that's your sweet spot. If you change your juice often, you might have a sweet spot1 for flavor (A) and prefer sweet spot2 for flavor (B).

That is a funny comment. Whether you use volts or watts is up to you (I use volts as well, as it's quicker to move up and down), but unless you talk in watts, we don't understand what you are saying.

Why? - because Volts are meaningless without knowing what your atomizer resistance is and if you tell us your resistance, we won't want to do the math.

(lesson over, class dismissed)

I find 15 watts fine with the old OCC coils. The new vertical ones are better (for me) nearer 20 or even 25.
The higher you go, the less smooth. It's about choice.
40w on a temp control is quite smooth too, but starting to get rather warm.

Yeah. I'm just saying generally speaking 3.8-4.2 volts usually falls into the ideal wattage on a tank.

On my Petri it's an entirely different story I wrap my aliens to .08 and enjoy the vape at 110 watts which is nowhere close to 4v
