I'm just waiting for my fiance to come home and then I'm going to try to convince him that I need to try this.

My parents gave me a page out of New York magazine a couple of days ago with a little info on e-cigs, but no links.

I was clearing out my purse and found the page and gave it a good thought.

I found Modern Vapor immediately upon Googling e-cigarettes, and after reading quite a few posts here I think I'll try out their Sidesho Supreme pack. I know, I should probably start with a cheaper package to see if it will work for me, but I'm at my computer all the time, so I like the idea of it including the pass-thru.

Unfortunately all they have for the Supreme package is menthol, but after reading some posts here, that might not be a bad thing, even though I don't smoke menthols.

Right now I'm at a little more than a pack/day, and I smoke Camel Blue 99's.

The thing that worries me is, when am I done? As in, when I smoke an analog, when it gets toward the filter, I put it out and go inside. When are you done vaping?

Another question I have is, how different are the symptoms of quitting smoking WITH e-cigs and quitting cold-turkey? Is it much easier with e-cigarettes?

I'm sure I'll come up with more questions, but those are my main q's right now.

Oh, and Hi! :)

Heyas Chani,

Welcome to the ecf and woot on the decision to try vaping!

I'll wait 'till you have more questions before throwing a ton of suggestions at you. :p

But, to answer your question about when you're done, that was a bit of an adjustment for me. Like you said. You light an analog, you smoke 'till its finished, you're done 'till the next one.

It's taken me about a month to get used to vaping instead of smoking. In fact, this is my first day without an analog, although I only smoked one a day for the last three days.

After getting used to it, I just vape whenever I want and am able to. Pick it up, take a hit or 3 or 10, put it down or back in my shirt pocket or whatever.

Vaping doesn't give the immediate nicotine rush like analogs do, at least for me. I've read that the nic in vapor doesn't get absorbed into the lungs as efficiently as the nic in smoke. But, the nic in the vapor will coat your throat/mouth/sinuses and get absorbed that way. It just takes longer.

That, not being able to get the immediate relief from nic cravings, plus the fact that I wasn't trying all that hard to quit, is probably why it's taken me a month. I've mostly been cutting down on analogs for the pasts month because I realized just how gods awful they taste!

Hope this helps. Bring any other question you have here, and a slew of ppl will climb over one another to answer them :p

Happy hunting

I would recommend something more flexible. Their Sidesho can only use their stuff. That's it.

Also look at Joye 510 (which most use with blank Boge cartomizers) and look at KR808D-1 (Vapor4Life, SmokelessImage, Bloogplanet, Halocigs G6 and these 4 have plenty of prefilled cartomizers and can use each others cartomizers)

And for all slim ecigs I strongly recommend manual batteries - harder to damage or kill with juice leaks and easier to get a good hit

I vapid like a beast when I first started. I am now levelling out and have lowered my nic content. The first 2 weeks were not without withdrawal but the Ecig system beats all other smoking cessation devices/ programs hands down. In the past month I've converted 5 friends- 3 quit completely while have cut thief analogs by 80%. They ALL LOVE Vaping and are quite confident Vaping will rid them of analogs. We are talking about health, happiness and life. It's worth a shot IMHO.
Good Luck, Vapoor.

As far as how long you should smoke.. there is a really good beginner's tutorial (3 parts) in the library section on this site. That article was immensely helpful to me. Basically, among other things it recommends vaping about twice as long as you would take to smoke an analog. It also explains how to "hit" it, which is different than you are used to doing with an analog.

If you are a very light smoker (5 - 6 a day), the Sideshow might work for you. Otherwise, I would pick a better model that will probably cost you less. One the size of a slim cigar like the E-Power 510 or the Riva UNC would provide better performance and less hassle because the batteries will last much longer:

I will have to say that is the big problem with vaping i found.... With a normal analog cigarette you have your 14 odd drags and then its at the .... then gone. With Vaping, it takes a little more will not to keep on going (we all do it when we first start, but the novelty soon wears off)

I find that I would vape about 20puffs at a go before putting it down sometimes more =P..

But give it a go! probs best for you to go with a proper cigarette looking one to start with, then if you like it and want to stick with it go for a more proper VP device that will give you good vapour as well as a good "throat hit".

I wish you all the best either way!!!

Maybe telling him no once in a while will help convince him

Oh, and Hi! :)

I found quitting with an ecig to be a breeze compared to cold turkey or even using the patch and nic gum. I haven't smoked a cig since the day my Ego-T arrived. I don't think the ego-t is the best thing but it was a good start and the batteries are pretty good- I haven't had one fail yet- and any 510 carto/atty/whatever will work on them. Do some reading on ECF and search youtube for ecig tutorials

I wish there was a better way to express how easy it is to quit analogs when you move to vaping. I quit 6 months ago with no problem. Please understand I smoked Marlboro and Salem for over 40 years ( I started smoking very young) and I was able to quit easily. I ordered a PV on a whim and forgot about it. Then a week later as I was rooting through my outdoor ashtray for a a .... to smoke because I ran out of analogs, the mailman delivered my Ego T. Upon arrival I thank heaven for charged batteries because I started vaping and never looked back. Good luck!

This is a really friendly site! :D

Nothing like you'd expect from a bunch of people quitting/trying to quit smoking. ;)

He was pretty open to the idea. He doesn't really like the price, but it's my b'day soon, so I think I'll be able to get a starter set soon.

I guess I know where I'll be coming for support. :)

Thanks, all!

He doesn't like the price, let him kiss a stinky ashtray for a while. As long as you don't go overboard on the expensive mods, it shouldn't take too long to save money over smoking

Please, please, buy an eGo based platform! I don't care which one, but you'll be much happier with a better chance for success!

I suggest a lil' more research and some time to let the other ECF members to convince ya which way to go.

Today is day three for me with the sidesho, which is my first e-cig. I smoked a little over a pack a day, smoking camel menthols. I think the menthol is a little bit too minty, but it's alright. My advice would be to get at least one other set of the cartridges because they don't last very long. I've went through more than two a day. I love my sidesho, but I haven't had a different e-cig yet so I have nothing to compare it to.

I don't think you really need to keep smoking analogs while vaping. In my three days, I've only smoked two analogs, which is a heck of a difference from three packs!
