ok . .. I'm anyone.

SS is going to provide a cooler vape. If heat is a key element to your enjoyment, SS is not for you. By this, I mean, like, I'm vaping at resistances where heat and residual heat are an issue, and I find that w/ SS I can vape at ~ .2Ω (or a little less) and not have a freakin' toaster oven in my atty. If, however, the element of heat provided by your current Kanthal build is perfect for you . . . there's no point in going to SS.

Also, as @grouch mentions, you've got to take into account that 316L SS rises in resistance when heated. So, you gotta figure your "running" resistance will be about 120% of your cold/metered resistance. Simplest way to translate this is to build your exact same preferred build with +2 gauge of SS to Kanthal (if you like 2mm ID, 26g Kan, 6 wraps . . . then build 2mm ID, 28g SS, 6 wraps). It will meter lower res. cold, but 316L will run at ≈res.

If you want more wire mass (if you want to eliminate the "cooler vape"-of-SS element, and/but avail yourself of the quicker heat-up time and stuff), you'll need to drop your average build resistance.
i.e. if you vape at .4Ω, and replicating a .4ΩK build with (2gauges↑) .34ΩSS (cold) is too cool for you . . . try an SS build that nets .29Ω (cold) and runs at ≈.35Ω (warm).

So, Kiwi, you not only decreased your wire mass (went up 2 gauges), but then you slapped a couple of extra wraps on for good measure. Adding in the TCR (SS resistance rising to ≈120% @ ≈400°F), you built a coil that nets a higher resistance than you're used to. So it would feel doubly cool.

Good to see Professor Bee venture outside the hive pollinating the masses with knowledge.
Dead on as per usual...

Fair warning. It works extremely well, but does have a tad bit o battery rattle.

Love the creativity! Install an O ring and that battery rattle will go away...;)

Answered all the unasked questions I've been typing up! Many thanks for making it clear, pdib!

I guess that's why I DON'T like stainless in a mechanical. I like to have some heat. I've tried 316l dials in a stumpy, and it hit pretty much right away, but then it felt like it flattened out. Now, I have some SS fused Clapton builds in some tanks on 200w mods and it kicks some serious tail! So, kanthal for me on drippers and mechanicals, SS on regulated.

I think it just needs a thicker one. I have one if the thin ones in there and it normally is fine, but riding is a tad different.

I love this. I love how we can pick, choose and create our own vaping experience. Try that, cig-smokers... :D

I never liked heat, myself...but I do like a big hit of vapor. SS is like the golden maiden coming to me middle of the night whispering sweet somethings in my ear...

oh...'scuse me. Sorry. I'm leaving

:D

A while back,...my machinist buddy and I were talkin' about doin' some stainless. He quoted me a price, but I thought it was kin'a high....:(

Welp,....he took it upon himself to pick up some 303 stainless, just to give it a try.... Long story short,...he called me up yesterday, and told me that he had 6 of 'em ready for me, and asked if he could he bring 'em by....
In. And yes, that's binding. :)

You've got some thicker o-rings headed your way, buddy! :)

They should arrive on Monday. :thumb:

Great holster, too! :D

Thanks Corey!

I couldn't be more pleased with his work. All it took from me was a couple careful measurements of the mounting bracket and some quick hacking and sanding of some bolts, and it fit like a glove. Coffeebum seems to like how it came out as well!
