I successfully wicked an rta coil for the Big Baby Beast and just had to tell people who would understand how exciting that is. Yay!

I tried to do it a couple of days ago and on my Tesla Steampunk, the screen read "Atomizer Short." I tried it on the Alien and the screen read "Low Ohms" or something to that effect. It was frustrating. I went to youtube and found several videos there about this rta being defective about half the time. There are videos for how to fix that but I didn't have a dremel handy and besides, this was my first time wicking a coil. No way did I want to have to operate on it too.

Today, I was feeling ambitious, so I chose a different rta (I have three Big Baby Beast atomizers and each comes with the RTA) and tried again. Complete success this time. It works beautifully on both the Tesla and the Alien. I feel so accomplished. LOL

I have an OBS Engine Nano on order, so I wanted to be ready since that atomizer requires wicking. Making coils will be next but I will probably wait a bit on that. Baby steps. ;)

If you can wick the BBB RBA, an Engine nano will be a nonissue. Easy as anything to build and wick. RBAs tend to be more challenging than dedicated RTAs.

That is really good to hear. I certainly am more confident about it now and looking forward to trying my hand with coils. I got the Coil Master tool kit, so should have all of the tools I need.

Congrats and welcome to the club. Building is addictive. Once you find what works best for you it's nice. I've never used factory sub ohm coils. I've always built my own. Once you get the hang of it it's quite easy. That coilmaster kit is definitely a plus and worth the money. The coiling jig makes spinning coils a breeze.

I've got 3 Big baby beast tanks all with the RBA decks, they seem to be great on vapor and flavor. I started making nickel coils but had a problem when trying to use SS coils, now the newer vaporizers seem to be able to take SS coils.
I used the coil that came with the Big Baby Beast, so haven't made any coils yet. There is a known issue with the RBA decks for BBB and several different fixes for the problem on Youtube. I have three BBBs and had trouble with one of them when wicking it. I got atomizer short on the Tesla Nano and low ohms on the Alien. I didn't want to operate on the deck, so picked up a different deck and wicked that one. It worked fine but knowing there is a problem with them makes me not really want to try again. Haven't you had issues with any of the RBA decks for the BBB?

It has been quite a while since I did any work on the RBA decks, I just keep using the tank on the vaporizer and haven't had problems with it. Quite some time ago I do remember one tank that had the shorting issue, I tried the correct method of putting it back together and that worked and also found that just doing twisting the tank around would fix the short. I wanted to use the BBB on a Pico 25 but ended up buying a Griffin 25 mini tank for it. I do like the SS coils that come with the Smok RBA decks since all you have to do is burn the coils to clean them and then rewick. For the heck of it I did build a SS Clapton coil for one of the decks. Avid Artisan Daedalus Clapton Wire Tool
It sells for less than their price if you look.

Thanks - I am a complete newbie to building so need all of the help I can get. I do like the ease of wicking the OBS Engine Nano but might be up to the challenge of operating on the RBA decks for the BBB. All practice helps, right? :)
