Really? You're not suppose to inhale? I'm obviously doing something wrong. I take a slow draw of vapor into my mouth and do a shallow inhale and ouch! Feels like inhaling a cuban cigar! First I thought it was the nic level so I have gone from 18 to 6 mg of nicotine... that didn't make a difference so I increased VG percentage and that seems even worse. It still is very uncomfortable. Analogs feel better than this! Don't know what to try next. This is getting really expensive but I already have some lung problems and would like to get off of tobacco - but this is painful. I've read lots of articles about vaping and I know that smoke is no good but is inhaling vapor not harmful, too?

I suspect that you are getting dry hits which can be very harsh an little if any flavor.
VG can be a very thick juice and may not work well with some equipment. Try a higher % PG juice.
In the mean time you can try to thin your high VG juice with a couple drops of distilled water, but that will reduce the flavor.

How long have you been vaping. My first 6 days were rough on my throat but the scratchy/spikey feel went away after about a week. I started on %100 VG w/ 24mg nicotine. As I started introducing PG to the blends the scratchy feeling came back but went away after about a day or so. I am finding the higher the PG the mire throat hit. Also any "Ice" or menthol flavors can have one heck of a throat hit. Maybe let the juice sit for a week with a daily shake and some may go away. %100 VG does give me a heavy feeling chest as @kparks said. I now really like 75vg/25pg mix now. I hope this can help out in some way

I get that problem with 18mg 100%PG menthols. This is what works for ME (may not work for everyone): Draw vapor into mouth and hold for a minute. Inhale slowly through nose first, then mouth. Exhale through nose, then mouth.

I've found that, for me, the inhale through the nose draws the vapor into the lungs a bit more slowly and cuts down on the TH a bit. May not work for you, but it could be worth a try. :D

there could be a lot going on - getting used to it is one. seriously - dont inhale. Its really not much of a benefit as the nic is more readily absorbed through the mucus membranes in the sinus and mouth. Just take a nice long slow draw an allow the vapor to fill your mouth.
while holding the vapor breath in a little through your nose. slowly exhale.

also be sure you are hydrated. vapor will be much rougher on you if your are not hydrated.

as another poster suggested make sure you are not getting dry hits

finally - go slow and allow yourself time to get used to it. it is different from smoking. you really didnt take to smoking all at one either. you were messing around sneaking cigs every now and again and simply were not paying attention to the learning curve - but it was there.

What type of PV are you using? You could be getting too much vapor if you are using a manual ego style battery. I believe that an automatic mini ecig might be better. Less power, less vapor. Also try a liquid that is not tobacco. Maybe a light fruity or slight sweet juice may be more appealing not imitation tobacco and definitely don't try menthol. Hope things get better for you. DON'T GO BACK TO CIGARETTES!! They definitely are not better for you.

This is my thought for you, i smoked for years, at age 33 my doctor told me i had signs of COPD, im also a healthcare worker and work with pulmonologists. So quick medical insight if this helps. When you smoke for long time the tar smashes down the cillia, the little hair like fibers in your lungs, so your lungs are not working the way they should. Vapor is diffrent than smoke. Your lungs are use to smoke. its smooth for them because that cillia and tar have clogged passage ways and such. not sure what device your vaping with, im hoping its small and 3.7 volts, you need light cooling vapor till lungs get use to the moisture of vapor. Do not take long puffs, take the smallest shortest puffs of vapor into mouth first then slowly inhale into lungs, short small puffs, and pg will burn more so make sure your mix is a little higher in vg, try a 60vg/40pg ratio...its in between. When i have patients go to surgery, they get oxygen in surgery. If your a smoker your lungs cough and hack when waking up and oxygen is good for your lungs, but because the lungs are tared down from smoking its going to take time to heal, and slowly cough out some of that gunk that is built up in your lungs. This is happening with the vapor for you. Please dont give up, in the long run you will save money, and your health. After a year and half of vaping, i no longer use copd medicine or inhalers. I keep a inhaler around if my asthma flares up thats it. Hope that helps

I found, being somewhat new to vaping that I had to learn the different tastes when something is not working right. This is what i mean. Sometimes I would get a bad stinging in my nose and throat. I think this is from the alcohol because it only does it with juices that have alcohol in them. In this case, I would actually crank up the power and that alcohol sting, would turn into a nice throat hit. The sting would go away, a nice presence in the back of my throat would be all that is left. The next bad vape, would be the scratchy in the back of my throat that could make you cough. I thought that this was a dry hit and in a way, it is, but it happened to me when my wicks were wet. I have discovered that this is not an entirely dry hit, but it is where part of the coil is not touching the wick or juice. The coil being in the air would give this scratchy throat hit. Next, would be the normal dry hit. This, to me was the easiest to identify because I would get a lot of flavorless vapor when it first starts. It wouldn't be that harsh when it is just starting to get dry, but it would be different, muted and maybe wicky tasting. I pulled my hair out with dripping atomizers, the vivi nova, bottom coils, and genesis style atomizers. Now, I love dripping and the bottom coils, I'm ok with the vivi nova, and still am going crazy with the genesis. I have spent a lot of money as well. The point is, I love at least part of it, it is only a matter of time before I love all of it. Hang on to the stuff you buy, it won't likely go to waste. Stick with it, if you are new like me, we can take the journey together (corny I know) I tried to dive into different things at once, which was a mistake. I should have, for example, dripped and only dripped for a while, then gone to something else, etc. I have put away my genesis for the time being, and am dripping and using bottom coils and everything is easier. Good luck.
