This is very typical for importing larger orders direct from Chinese manufacturers. First, Paypal is wholly unregulated and can and does seize money and hold it for 6 months without having to give an explanation. And they can actually go into the account linked to the payment and take MORE money out from previous orders under their service terms. Second, the fees they charge are more then twice as high as other methods. You can ask them if they will use an escrow service if you are concerned.

Paypal are a bunch of douchebags...don't use them. A word to the wise is sufficient.

Just wanted to jump in here and let everyone know that my McAfee sent up a red flag on PayPal today. I didn't have any money in my account and Paypal was saying my account was going to be limited.... So I opened it and it wanted me to click a link. All around the message was a red banner that McAfee put up saying it was no longer a protected website. I just closed it and forgot it. I'm going to the bank tomorrow and let them know that Paypal no longer has access to my account.
Just thought everyone might want to know this information. Can't be too careful these days.

URGENT

That email you received is most likely not from paypal and is indeed a phishing attempt. Had you used that link to enter account information it would now be in the hands of scammers. A simple rule of thumb to follow is to never go to a website where you enter personal info through a link in an email. If you had any question on the legitimacy of this email, the best way to check is type in paypal's address into your browser and log in as usual.

Paypal would be interested in that email. Most companies have an address to forward such scams to.

Also make sure your av is up to date. Your av caught the phishing attempt, but if it's out of date may have missed other malware that could be delivered to your system through the email, depending on the program you used to open it.

Most suppliers, even if they take paypal for small orders, will advise you NOT to use paypal for large orders. For a start, isn't it 4% of the total amount that you have to pay in fee's? It costs me a flat rate $20 or so to send a priority payment from my bank. I would say 2.3k USD is on the side of bank transfers anyway. If they are a large supplier I don't see a problem really, go direct does help though.
