tobacco/smoking/nicotine is literally the only area of public policy where one ignorant simpleton can invent some hypothetical fear off the top of his or her head, and it becomes (without ever being subjected to questioning or scrutiny) the basis for a piece of legislation that passes either unanimously or very close to it.

Twitter - @Costa4NY and it's an active account. Ask him why he hates small business and loves Big Tobacco.

Heh heh heh.. I just tweeted him this:

And what about all that flavored vodka?? I guess that's marketed to kids too? GOTTA BAN IT! Because adults don't like flavor!

It would be more pertinent, not to mention far more damning, if you asked him where he misplaced his moral outrage over kid-friendly-flavored nicotine gum. If you think nicotine products with sweet/fruity flavors are expressly designed to lure young people into smoking, you don't get to pick and choose. It's either the devil or it isn't.

The New York City Council - File #: Int 0488-2014

§ 17-715 Sale of flavored tobacco products and flavored electronic cigarettes prohibited. a. It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or offer for sale, or to possess with intent to sell or offer for sale, any flavored tobacco product or flavored electronic cigarette except in a tobacco bar.
b. There shall be a presumption that a retail dealer in possession of four or more flavored tobacco products, which shall include individual tobacco products or electronic cigarettes, packages of tobacco products or electronic cigarettes, or any combination thereof, possesses such tobacco products or electronic cigarettes with intent to sell or offer for sale.

Any Flavor. I wonder how "tobacco bar" is defined?

I tweeted him too, just because this is ridiculous. I wonder how the folks at Blu, Fin, Haus feel about this...

I'm betting that if this bill does pass, they'll be raising hell in New York. And considering that those are owned by BT, they've got plenty of money for it.

Good heavens! I thought the NYC idiocy was going to end now that Bloomberg was knighted , but no, they keep pressing deeper into ridiculousness.

The current administration makes Bloomberg look like a ultra right wing Tea Party Conservative.

You wouldn't think a more "nanny-stater" could get elected but it happened.

I still don't understand how a government as onerous as New York City's can continue to make itself yet more onerous and still withstand constitutional scrutiny.

Heh... it's really no surprise to me that New Yorkers are typically stereotyped as "neurotic" -- you put that many people that close together, and they're bound to go crazy.
