I know, I've been doing alot of reading over the past few days, it's all becoming a jumble. I know the mod I have coming says to use unprotected batteries, which is a little scary to me, but I can deal with it. The biggest problem for me is getting the coils built right. Like right now on my k100 I have dual 6wrap 28g coils according to my innova meter it's reading about 1.3, and if I bump the new mod to say 4.0 am I gonna be snapping wires? I have the vaper's toolbox but all these numbers I can't understands them!
You need to do your homework then. It is very dangerous to operate a mech if you are not familiar with Ohms Law and battery safety!!!

So..........JUST IN CASE I give mechs a try, which is by no means a guarantee.....a couple of questions:

1 - I use a standard multimeter when rebuilding my Kanger heads, it generally has about a 0.1 ohm variance from my Vamo's reading. Which is more reliable, or should I just pony up the $15-20 for a 510 enabled ohm meter?

2 - This 'kick' of which you speak....que es?

1-The 510 ohm meter is not required it is just easier than in your case an ohm meter. i actually find it works great as a build platform too for my drippers.

2-The original kick (naturally there are others now) is made by the same people who bring you the original DNA boards Evolv, is a small device that goes into your 18XXX series tube mod and essentially makes it a variable wattage device much like your Vamo. It doesn't fit all tube mods as it adds height in thee battery tube so you need to have the space, some telescoping mods can accommodate it easily, the nemesis comes with a kick ring to add the extra height. The kick is adjustable from 5 to 10/15 watts (there are 2 versions).

Hope that helps.

It helps immensely - thank you!

One question - does the kick cycle through output like the Vamo and other regulated devices using the 33.333 chip? I remember reading a few times that folks prefer the 'flatline' output of unregulated devices like mechs; does the kick change that?

I can't help you....I don't mess with mechs for that reason. I stick with regulated mods so I don't have to worry about all that mess! I do know that if you have 2 coils that are each 2 ohms, you should be vaping at about a 1 ohm.

So unregulated at 4.2 volts, the power won't jack up my 28ga coil will it? And with a kick, that only regulates the power output right? You can still subohm with a kick?

I don't personally know but pbusardo's video shows a flat signal.

Also, I just wanted to make sure you understand this is not to be used with a regulated device, only mechanical mod's.

You only get 4.2v with a battery right off the charger it levels at 3.7 for the majority of the charge and then will start to fall off. I do all of my builds with 28g kanthal and have never had a problem.

I believe it will fire a .5 ohm coil but I don't think it will fire it at the standard 3.7v you would get in a mech without it so if you are sub ohming there is no need for the kick.
